all I have to say is that my hair thanked me after my treatment... ever heard of magic perm? well, ms. oh has the magic touch!!!! I was sooooo happy with how my appointment went and I wanted to spread the words!! gotta visit this place, super nice and cool...

Watch out for this place, they totally ruined my hair!
I went in having successfully grown out my hair from Demi Moore in ghost to Shoulder length. Huge for me because I have had short hair for 13 years and I managed to let it grow despite the pains. I needed to have long hair for this job and so, the day of the shoot, I went in to have some small shape put in and a tiny bit of layering. I closed my eyes and thought about work. the next thing I know I hear Major chattering between the woman doing my hair and one of her coworkers. I open my eyes and there is 4 inches of hair on my lap and she is not looking even in my direction as she cuts away! I immediately told her to stop and just blowdry it and let me get out of there and she indignantly began yanking at my hair while half drying it. I showed up for the photo shoot and they made me wear a wig. This is the worst treatment and the least attention and the worst outcome ever.

Best Korean Hair Salon on 32nd!
I have been going to Ms O for about 7 years now and I absolutely trust her with my hair, in fact, I only trust her with my hair because she really knows asian hair. My fiance has also been going to her for the past 2 years and she is very good with men's hair too. She's particularly good with cuts and colors. She listens to you, figures out what you want, and enhances it to exceed your expectations. She's also got a good sense of humor and keeps you entertained and comfortable. I know she's good and I am sticking with what I know is good.

You get what you pay for I guess
I had the straight perm done, $200, despite the huge yellow sign in the window that said they were charging $150. Went in, barely told to get a robe from closet, I had to figure it out myself, all the robes were dirty, hair washed, towels smelled stale and not very clean...started process. They started about two inches from the root of my hair, when I asked why they weren't starting at the root, they were like "chemical." Okay, but then I asked someone who went to a normal clean salon, they said their processing was started at the root, because once the hair grows in, it will be wavy and time for a touch up. So I am guessing I will need a touch up earlier than most, meaning more money or same amount in long run, if done by another salon. Not friendly at all, very unclean place, big fly kept hitting the window. The restroom had the subway stench of urine and so dirty... They told be to come back in six months for a touch-up, which is the same price, which I am thinking they will be doing my whole head, which makes me think in six months will my hair be a big mess again...which doesn't seem right, I thought it was permanent.

Straight up Magic Straight.
I went to OZ from my friend's recommendation, who's been going there for years now, and I'm very pleased with the service I received. 200 bucks for japanese magic straight is just un-heard of.. I've been getting magic straight for years now and my initial thought was, what do I have to lose? I've had some nightmarish experience with some of the places in the city, so losing some hair wasn't that big of a deal.. if anything I would've found a place with the best deal in town. and that's exactly what I found.

good cheap magic straight, unpleasant owner/manager
I made an appointment for japanese straightening after finding oz hair on another site, and am overall very pleased. I had done the treatment once before, for about 3 times the price, also in Manhattan. I was quite frustrated initially because the owner and/or manager is not very good with customers at all. I asked a few basic questions about the process they used (can you blame me with all the horror stories out there? this is my hair!). She was apparently very offended by my simple and polite questions, and became quite angry with me when I expressed concern about their washing my hair only once at the start of the process (I believe the norm is 3 times). She became so agressive that I almost left, but I knew that the other places I'd tried were fully booked, so I stayed. And it got much better as the process progressed: the stylist, Annie, was very nice and clearly had a lot of experience. Communication was a little difficult as she speaks only little english, but she told me not to worry, and I tried to do as she said (it's difficult for me, I only have one head of hair!) Anyway, after spending the requisite 48+ hours after the treatment with dry and unbound hair, I just washed it and am able to confirm that it looks great. All in all, the treatment was much quicker and much cheaper than the salon where I went last year. Of course, I wasn't offered any food or tea, and the manager's personality is really quite difficult, perhaps especially for a first timer who wants to be talked through the process, but it is still a great value and end quality. I highly recommend it overall (I also had a very good trim for $45 on the same day)

The best place everrr for hair straightening!!!!
OMG this place is absolutely amazing!!! I have extremely thick wavy hair and would spend 45 min straightening it. The hair stylists were awesome and very truthful. My mom had highlights in her hair and wanted to do the japanese straightening but they advised her not to and recommended the brazilian keratin treatment even though it is cheaper. I got the japanese straightening done and it took a little over 4 hours. Sometimes I even had two ladys working on my hair in order to get me out of there faster. Their english is not the best but they are very kind and do not make you feel uncomfortable by talking korean to each other. I coudl not believe the quality of the service I received for the cheap price of $200 that I paid. My hair turned out fabulous and after I wash it and let it air dry it looks like I spent an hour straightening it. I highly recommend this place, they were very clean, nice, and truthful. I flew all the way from Florida for this service and will continue to go back every year."

Wonderful Experience
So after reading reviews I decided to go to OZ .... and I must say i am glad i did. THe owner did my hair...they were very very friendly.....i didnt want poky st hair and wanted some volume and the owner patiently explained to me the entire deal...they actually took the time to discuss my concerns before we started. The wash part kinda sucked coz the girl didnt do a good job. Then they applied the chemical and washed off ...Miss O ironed every strand of my hair literally making sure she didnt miss any,,,the lady does love her job and wants perfection in what she does.

Run don't walk to see Ms. O1
I actually have been meaning to write this review for a long time, but didn't get around to it until now. I went to see Ms. O exactly a year ago to get a korean curly perm. I drove from Boston because I wanted to actually get it done at a real Korean salon. I paid $200 and Ms. O did my hair. It was honestly the best service I have ever received at a salon. She talked to me prior to starting asking what I was looking for and then explaining what she thought would look best taking into account what I said. I have very thick long hair that was already quite processed from coloring and prior regular perms. She is definitely a perfectionist in that she paid close attention to where I had previously highlighted to not fry those areas while keeping the solution on the somewhat less processed stronger areas of my hair a bit longer. She approached it like an important project and really did a marvelous job. While the curlers were in my hair, she put this thing around my neck to hold the curlers up so they wouldn't hurt my scalp from the pulling (as they don't put the curlers close to your scalp like regular perms) they are connected to an electric machine. She gave me a pillow and a magazine and even a drink and ferrero rocher chocolates (my favorite!) while I sat and waited. She was very attentive and watched everything very closely while working with others. While I was there a young girl came in with her mother and Ms. O talked to them about what she was looking for and actually explained why she couldn't do what the girl wanted because it would fry her hair. She actually turned her away. She told her to come back in some period of time (maybe 6 mths to a year after whatever damage the girl had previously done to her hair had healed to make it strong enough to do whatever she has asked for).Worldwide > United States > New York, NY > Beauty & Spas
