Great find in Hoboken
Yama, aka Ubu, is a cut above the glut of other sushi restaurants in Hoboken. They serve all the staple rolls as well as a few house specials. Try the Trio spicy roll or the Toro Yaki roll for an example of the best in the restaurant.Excellent Japanese food
If you're looking for Japanese food in Hoboken, this is the place. The wait staff is excellent, the food is great and reasonably priced. It's really great when they have sumo matches on TV. There are a number of places in Hoboken that serve sushi, this place is the best! The best restaurant in hoboken!!!!!
i love this place!! the food is always great (very fresh tasting - try the tuna tadaki!), with extremely accomodating and helpful staff. one time i showed up with a friend 15 minutes before closing, but they did not rush or make us feel uncomfortable in the least. the atmosphere is just right, with dimmed lighting, but not so much that you can't see your date or have to shout to hear each other. the only bad thing is that this place is closed on sundays :( :( :(fresh sushi but nothing special
We started off with Tuna Spicy Dadaki and it was delicious which got us really excited about what we were about to get. Aside from the usual sushi/sashimi, special rolls we ordered came out quite different from what was described on the menu. I ordered a shogun roll because it has eel and tobiko, when I didn't see those in the roll so I asked our waitress to make sure. She said I didn't order eel just Shogun roll which didn't have eel inside. I was pretty sure it did as I held back ordering other eel dishes because of that. So I blamed myself for seeing things and just ate everything. They were all pretty good, except we ended up ordering 3 special rolls all came with eel sauce which isn't anything special - probably our fault for not reading carefully. We asked for a dessert menu which is just the last 2 items on the main menu. Kinda lame to only offer green tea and red bean icecream for dessert. But at least I had another chance to take a look at the description of the Shogun roll again. Bingo!!! Eel and Tobiko was supposed to be inside. Our waiter checked with the chef then said, eel was actually inside the roll but tobiko was not. At this point I couldn't really prove anything since I ate it all, but I can tell that there was no eel. I didn't want to make a big deal and just shrugged it off. The icecream was on the house cuz of that. There is another sushi restaurant right across the street that was a lot more crowded - we will try that restaurant next time. Our waitress was nice but didn't really know anything about the menu. We may come back here again and just stick to regular roll instead of those special roll-wannabe.Worldwide > United States > Hoboken, NJ > Sushi and Japanese Restaurants
