Superb Dining Experience
At first sight, looking at the exterior, I wasn't impressed. Walking through the door was like walking into a fairy tale. The decor and ambiance are warm and inviting. The wait staff were among the most attentive and gracious I have ever encountered (it made the whole experience that much better)! The fare was absolutely delicious. It was my first time eating Brazilian and I couldn't have been more pleased. The portions are large and oh-so-tasty. Via Brasil is highly recommended.Via Brazil is delightful!
Via Brazil has been my best latin dining experience in New York City, and is my new favorite restaurant. My first time dining, I ordered this friend codfish which was amazing! I also spoiled myself with the exquisite black bean soup and a caiparina. Delicious. Afterwards, I topped it off with the mouth watering banana fritas, yum! On another excursion, I ordered the Stroganoff De Frango. If you are looking for suculent chicken smothered in the most delicious cream sauce ever, this is your dish! Served over a bed of rice, it was what made me a Via Brazil addict. The waitstaff is very very nice as well as knowledgeable about the food. Sometimes there is a piano trio that leaves much to be desired, but as a jazz musican I am picky about what music I listen to. I would definitely reccomend this for a number of situations.A great restruant
Everything about this place was fantastic. The food the staff, the atmosphere, the music were all great. We were seated immediately on a Saturday night and our waiter was very friendly, joking and laughing with us. The paella is excellent as is the Bife a baiana. I would highly reccomend this place.Good Brazilian place
It's no bargain, but few of the Brazilian establishments in midtown are. The interior is nice (though the air conditioning could have been a lot stronger -- it was too warm in there both times I went), and the service is good. Everyone was very satisfied with the taste of their food, although the portions varied depending on the dish. The chicken portions were big, though the seafood portions were small. For example, the shimp stew was delicious and the shrimp tasted very fresh, but it was a $19 entree and had only five medium-sized shrimp. Another person had the steak, and found the cut to be rather skimpy as well (though very tasty). I've been to several other midtown Brazilians and this is one of the better ones. The caipirinhas are well made, too. A band plays on Fri/Sat evenings. Additionally, the space is a bit cramped.GREAT PLACE
Delicious steak and fishBad Service, Food are rid off
We have birthday party last week, we paid around $50 per person. The service was bad, never remember what we asked for. food came out slow. We order fish, I found 80% are potato inside. We order shirmp, I found only 4 small shirmp, the rest of it are pineapple... when we order a check to leave, we request 4 times.. waste us 20min to bring us the BILL.... we will never go there again.Nah!
I'm Brazilian and this was may third time to via brazil. First time I went there was three years ago and I didn't dislike the food. I went back over one year ago and the food was excellent. I went back last week and sadly realized Via brazil is no longer aBrazilian restaurant. They have turned themselves into a fiasco where most of their dishes are now suitable to belong to anything other than a Brazilian restaurant. To be honest, from the three times I've had dinner there, this time I had the worse food. Service was attentive and the restaurant staff friendly as usual. Prices are too high - they've always been- and the wine list seems to be getting more expensive everytime. Next time I want brazilian food I will go somewhere else and I recommend anyone who goes there to ask your waiter to be honest and tell you what is really Brazilian on the menu. It's worth a try on their promotion day though. You can't expect much for $25, can you?Avoid at ALL Costs
I seem to be off the beam. Last review I offered, I gave 5 others gave 2. This one most give 4-5. I am hard pressed to give 1. We dined 4/19. My Partner is in a wheelchair. There are 4-5 steps down to the patio/dining room. No ramp, no offer of help from any staff . Thank God she's small. I carried her down the steps as staff (and Diners) looked on. That should have been the tip off, but we were hungry, tired & thirsty. After providing the evening's entertainment, we waited 10 minuets to be acknowledged by staff. Another 15 to give a cocktail order. We requested menus 2x's & inquired after our cocktails 3x's. The menu looked good so we stayed (I also wasn't quite ready to lift & carry). Despite the service, we placed out entire order at once or we would have left after the 3rd cocktail inquiry. We began w/Casquinha De Siri. We are still not certain where (or if )the crab is located. Lots of breading & a Hellmans-Velveeta-esque sauce. Salada Tropical- The few bits we tasted were sour, stale,& musty/moldy. So glad we filled up on mayo, velveeta, & mold. Thinking that we would have a wonderfull authentic experience, we ordered the "Brazilian National Dish". We counted exactly 1 rib, 1, approx. 2" piece of sausage, & a few chunks (we assume were rice) and something slimy & gelatinous we think were supposed to be collards. The dish was bland, greasy, & just plain bad. Silly me, I tried to order another cocktail. Again 3x's. We finally left (slow learners apparently) after requesting the check - you guesed it, 3x's. Again, no offer of assistance. However, based on the large group of people ( friends of the owner?) drunkenly & loudly taking up the majority of the patio & who were being served (actually served) wonderfull looking & smelling dishes which, when we inquired, we were told were "not available " & the location so close to Times/Tourist Square, I am sure that this place will survive. Horrible food. Zero service.Maybe Next Time
If a restaurant's atmosphere is bad, then it should redeem itself with good service. If the service is bad, then it should redeem itself with good food. If the food is bad, then it should redeem itself with low prices. If the prices are bad . . . OK, let's just say Via Brasil should spend a little less time overcooking my filet mignon and a little more time redeeming itself.Great food and serivce!
