Turning Point recently opened the doors to a new state-of-the-art campus in Culver City. It is located off the 10 Freeway near Robertson Boulevard. The new high-tech campus is a two story facility with a Library/Media/Research Center that includes a tiered storytelling room. The structure also houses Latin and Spanish classrooms, a multimedia art studio, wet and dry science laboratories, a full-size gymnasium, and an outdoor playground and lawn area. A music and performing arts center top off the new campus. This is quite a change from its very private, woodsy setting at the base of the Bel Air mountains. This used to be a quaint school for professional families looking for a quality education. Unfortunately, the school is trying to expand it's campus and all efforts are being made to raise money to do so, with limited success. There has been a capital campaign going for three years now. With an estimated budget for the expansion of 15 million (likely grossly underestimated) and only about 1.5 million raised so far, there is a lot of emphasis on fund raising and little emphasis on the students currently at the school. Lots of teacher turnover. Growing class sizes. Lots of courting of big money donors. Decreasing emphasis on educational content and a growing emphasis on theater arts, campus beautification and keeping up with the private school Joneses . End result, more than 80 kids have left this school in the last three years which is unheard of for a private school in L.A.Worldwide > United States > Culver City, CA > Education
