Hole in the Wall
This place has good all around Japanese food. The menu is varied and offers some traditional items that one would find in a Japanese household. The sushi is fresh. I do recommend the nigiri more than the rolls here. This place has great tempura and udon. It's a great little place where you'll see regulars. A true sign that this place is not some fancy wannabe Japanese restaurant or chain is the Japanese locals that come to order many of the more traditional items such as the special ramen or udon. I don't recommend this place if you're going with a large group since it's small. It does get busy on the weekends, so you might have to wait.Jummy !
Looked up on local sushi rating and surprice such a small place in my neighbourhood would get the best rating, I gota try it. Ah, the tea! And a warm greeting wake my tummy. Sushi served in traditional kitchen set that I haven't seen elsewhere. The place doesn't have enough space for a scrolling bar, but cozy enough to attract couples and friends.Tendon no onions
We love getting take out from here since there is not much seating. I always get the tendon w/no onions and my spouse gets curry. Highly recommend.Great small neighborhood sushi place
Been going to this place periodically since they opened and bought-out the previous owner who called the place "Yoshi" (fellow's name was Yoshi, don't know if current owner is named Toshi). Liked it as Yoshi's and like it still (had even fewer tables when it was Yoshi's). Need to arrive at the right time or wait a while, but the sushi is excellent, and take-away is always an option. One of my favorite places to go for Sushi.Get there early!
Toshi is small and fills up right after they open, for good reason! The food is fresh and the service is efficient. We were disappointed when our previous sushi haunt changed hands, but luckily, we discovered an unexpected treasure in Toshi to fill the void. The variety is impressive, and everything we've tried has been outstanding. Their spicy, creamy scallop hand roll is to die for!Horrible flavor
This was a place recommended to me by a friend. It was with a lot of excitement that we would be trying it for the first time. They had what seemed like a very good selection. But 1.50 for one 12 ounce can of soda pop was a little over the top. The miso soup was very good, but the regular garden salad was served with chopsticks. The sushi was awful. I was shocked to see so many great reviews. The Kappa was inside out, and the rice was fishy. The nori wrappers themselves tasted like they were stored right next to the rest of the old raw fish in the fridge. Everything was over salted. Including the soy sauce. The presentation was less than thrilling. It seemed as though no pride was taken in serving such an amazing cuisine. It was just slopped together with rice. We couldn't even finish our meal. What a huge disappointment. This left us with a bad taste in our mouthes.By far, my favorite
I live in Portland but have no problem taking the time to travel to Toshi when I have the sushi urge. Their fish is fresh, service is great and they even bring out special plates and silverware for my infant. It's always the same waitress when we go and she knows just what we want. Personal favorites: spider roll, rock roll, spicy tuna and unagi. Their other menu items are really good as well. If you want a more personal/intimate experience, eat here. Can a girl get some attention, please??
Before I start with my review, I just want it to be known that I have worked in customer service before and I am in no way a monster customer. I have a lot of patience, especially when it comes to food. However, my patience ran out with this place and that usually does not happen.Best Sushi in Portland!
I'm by no means a sushi aficionado, but I do know great nigiri when I taste it! I regularly go out of my way to enjoy the unbelievable Maguro/Hamachi/Sake nigiri @ Toshi whenever I can, and am sometimes even rewarded with decadent Toro. The fish is always fresh, the texture is consistent, and the taste has never been out of line.Best sushi at reasonable price
I've tried many different Sushi and Japanese restaurants, and Toshi is one of the best. Their tunas are nice and red, not stringy nor does it taste like water like many other places. Toshi also serve toro that does not taste frozen which is a big plus for toro lovers. There are also menus you most likely will not find in another Japanese restaurant, like different types of noodles. Their tempura has a thick batter, unlike others.Great food, dedicated staff
A very authentic Japanese restaurant, Toshi delivers on all fronts. The food is fresh and delicious. Every bit as good as the Tsukiji area of Tokyo.Best sushi in the burbs'
I have been going here for 2 yrs now and have always had excellent sushi! The sushi is always fresh and there are always good specials like toro. Their simple salad that comes with every meal has a FANTASTIC dressing on it. It is addicting. Their miso soup (which is also complementary) is also delicious (and I don't even LIKE miso soup!). The sake selection is also decent and one of their unfiltered, cold sakes is just superb (I can't remember the name but it was $20 for a huge bottle). The sushi chef is extremely nice and always smiling and the waitresses are very attentive, even when the place is packed (which it always is). Consistently good sushi is extremely hard to find in Beaverton/Hillsboro/Aloha but this place is ALWAYS good and I will continue to come back! One thing I *really* miss about living in Beaverton
This was the first place I ever ate sushi. And having now eaten at dozens of other Japanese restaurants, I realize how awesome Toshi's was. Almost every time I eat sushi I find myself saying, "It's good, but Toshi's is better..." :-)Great food, bad service
After being referred by some friends to try out Toshi's sushi, I came in on a friday with my girlfriend. l was very impressed by how good and authentic the food tasted. There was one problem though, the service was terrible. I had to ask for the second time to get something to drink. Just when I thought it couldn't get worse, the big lady was chatting with one of the customers, while I noticed other customers still waiting for their salads or drinks. Two customers waited nearly 5 minutes before they finally recieved their menus. This lady is a mess.awesome place
delicous foodgreat place for sushi
I went to toshi restaurant 1 year ago. I had lunch with my family. it was delicious, we had a great time. I ordered a spicey salmon and it was fantastic. my son ordered unagi wich is [eel].my wife ordered {tuna]. And my daughter ordered salmon. She thought it was marvelous.they had spectaular service, and the best food. We had an terrific time. The best part was that they gave us free andes chocolates. Becuse i thought this was a outstandigng restaurant wrote a reveiwGood sushi... but.
if you want REAL sushi, go here. If you eat (and enjoy) California Roll, you won't like it here. I love this place, but other than sushi, their cooked dishes are mediocre at best, especially given their price isn't exactly cheap. However, I don't mind paying $$ for good sushi. Their sushi chef is authentic as a sushi chef can be and you can tell by how he makes sushi and by the taste of sushi.best rest
