Armstrong Park
Located just across the street from the Jazz Quarters is Louis Armstrong National Park, a 32 acre park dedicated to New Orleans’ favorite son. It is home to the New Orleans Municipal Auditorium, Mahalia Jackson Theatre of the Performing Arts, Congo Square, and part of the New Orleans Jazz National Historic Park. This lovely park recently reopened after being painstakingly restored, and it is a quiet serene area for walking, biking or just reflecting on its’ natural and manmade beauty. A jazz music presentation is held in Perseverance Hall each Saturday at 11:00am.
Backstreet Museum
1116 Henriette Delille St. (Fomerly St. Claude Street) Costumes of “Mardi Gras Indians” and other artifacts of Treme culture. An easy walk a block and a half from the French Quarter; well worth the $5 admission fee not only for the displays but also for fascinating narration about local culture by the neighborhood curators.
Basin Street Station
501 Basin St. Old Southern Railway train station has been remodeled; the ground floor has a visitors information center with gift shop, informative film and local museum exhibits free of charge.
Louisiana Museum of African American History
1210 Governor Nicholls Street, In the historic St. Augustine Catholic Church complex. Open Sa,Su, 11AM-5PM; adults $3.
Saint Augustine Church
Henriette Delille at Governor Nicholas This famous church founded at the start of the 19th century by “free people of color” is famous in local African-American history.
Saint Louis Cemetery #1
Basin Street between St. Louis and Conti Streets, Local notables entombed here include 19th century Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau. It is best visited with tour groups; free ones are given by the park service in addition to various paid tours. Some of the best of New Orleans History is heard during group touring.
New Orleans African American Museum
1418 Governor Nicholls St. 504-566-1136. Posted as open 11a-4p Wednesday through Saturday, but calling to make sure they’ll be there before visiting is recommended.

We were in Garlands Guest House for a wedding. Stayed at this place because it was on the bridal web site. Found it to be a nice, quaint place. We rented a 2 room suite that slept 6. Only one bedroom other sleeping was in the living room...Bed & Breakfast New Orleans LA
My fiance took me here for my birthday, and it was a wonderful weekend. We stayed in a room with a mineral hot tub, and took 2 baths a day. I am not a big fan of the sulfur smell, so scents were provided to ease that. Even without the...Exceptional
