Our wedding day experience with SGE Limousine showed them to be unethical, unprofessional and incompetent. We were shocked to have such a horrible experience with them because they were recommended to us by the Burbank Marriott Hotel. We ordered limo service to create a memorable experience for our mothers and family members who were in from out of town to attend our wedding. Instead of enhancing their experience it seriously detracted from it. The first clue: after negotiating a price, giving them my credit card and thinking that everything was set, SGE calls the day before our wedding to say that we have to pay cash because they didn’t want to pay bank fees. That was just the beginning of this nightmare of an experience. It was a very simple scenario: Pick up my wife’s mother and sisters at the Burbank Marriott, proceed to the Glendale Hilton to pick up my mother and sisters, then on to our wedding at Occidental College. And the return trip at the end of the evening. Here is what transpired: Drive from Hotel to Occidental: • Limo didn’t go to the front of hotel where family was told to wait. After a little confusion they finally found each other. • Hot day and driver didn’t know how to operate AC. So they rode in heat. • Driver did not know how to get to the Glendale Hilton. So, instead of enjoying the ride, my wife’s sister Jane had to spend her ride giving driver directions. • The driver did not have the information about who he was picking up at the Glendale Hilton. • Jane had to again give the driver directions to Occidental College. Mind you Jane is from Sacramento and was simply using the gps on her phone. The driver of a limo service should know how to get from a major hotel to a major college in the city that he works in, or at least know how to use a gps! • There was no champagne as promised and the sodas were warm. • Upon arrival at Occidental the driver refused to pull up to a convenient spot to drop people off, but made them walk a very long distance. The area that we asked him to drop them was near a loading dock. So we know that large vehicles could get in and out. Return trip: • The driver demanded that we pay additional $50 because my mother was late getting to the limo. • The limo was filthy. There was some kind of slime on the seats and empty soda cans rolling around. So, our mothers asked to have the lights turned on to see what they were sitting in. • Driver did not know how to turn the lights on – Instead blasted our 80 year old mothers with strobe lights and rap music until he figured out how to turn that stuff off. • He never got the lights working • Sun roof was open and driver didn’t know how to close it so cold wind was blowing on our family all the way back to Glendale Hilton. My sister Doreen figured out how to close it after they got back to Hilton. • The driver got lost on the way back and again the passengers had to give him directions. It took an hour and a half to get from Occidental to Glendale Hilton! • The driver wouldn't pull up to hotel door until my sister summoned hotel personnel to show him how • Jane again had to give directions from Glendale Hilton to Burbank Marriott I called to tell the people at SGE about our horrible experience. Talked to someone who identified himself as Sako (sp?). He refused to let me speak to the owner and replied: “… I need to listen to the driver. Anybody can tell a story.” Implying that I was lying to him. When Sako called me back he proceeded to argue that none of these things actually happened. After I pointed out the flaws in his reasoning (and math) that supported my version (including the recorded time “11:55pm” that the driver claimed to have dropped off the passengers. They left at 10:30 – almost one and a half hours to make a 15 min. drive! He still said that there’s nothing he could do. When I insisted on talking to the owner he responded: “he’s irrelevant”. When I pressed him on that he hung up on me. While not responsible for this poor service, my experience with the Marriott was not very satisfying either. A very nice woman named Annie at The Marriott catering office was sympathetic and even called over to SGE, but was ultimately ineffective. This is not the Marriott's responsibility but in the future I will not have much confidence in recommendations from concierge at the Marriott who we trusted to know who to refer us to. Finally, when I contacted the person identified as the Hotel Mgr. for the Marriott his response was a cold and calloused "this is between yourself and SGE". So, we are left with only sadness and disappointment instead of the enhanced experience that we had contracted for.
