Excellent

Wonderful, authentic, Japanese rather than Korean sushi. Has several nooks for parties of 4 or more if one wants to be served in a traditional manner. Staff makes an effort to recognize and get to know you. Be careful - staff remembers details! Great place for lunch too. Though occassionally crowded, usually there is little or no wait. Reservations are accepted, but not usually necessary. Ambiance could use an upgrade - all are provided with childrens' placemats (crayons upon request), but the food and staff make up for the minor shortcomings.

The Original Sakura

It is an unfortunately thing that Japanese people are moving out Chicago and because of that Its hard to find a decent Sushi house after Hatsuhana is closed due to the property issue. Fortunately, theres Sakrura.

Therere actually two Sakura sushi restaurants in Chicago.
The Prospect is the original and the Woodfield is a spin-off.
Depending on how deep you understand the Sushi culture, heres how I help you to evaluate.

For general customers, since you cant really tell the difference, so you really dont have to worry.
For pros and Asians people, just mark my word, you cant find any other sushi house better than those two in IL.

By the way, if youve been to a lot sushi houses and think you're using chopsticks pretty good but you cant tell (by look) an Asian if he is a Japanese or not, please throw yourself under the category general.
Keep in mind that in Japan, women can't be a sushi chef. Thats why I didnt say he or she.
The reason why women cant be a sushi chef in Japan? Well, women use cosmetics with scent. In Japan, a master chef consider kitchen a holy place and he and his costumer cant allow any other scent get into the nigiri. Therefore, women are out.

Now, the differences

1. The interior of Prospect is very tradition while the WoodFiled counterpart is more westernized.
Since the chef also the owner at the Prospect location is very traditional, only Japanese waitresses can work in that restaurant. On the other hand, youll see non-Japanese servers at the Woodfield location.

2. The rank for Woodfield is 95 while the Prospect is 91. That's B.S.
How can you tell the difference between twins? I guess that is the result of monkeys judging pandas.
If one scores 95, theres no reason the other one has less than that.

3. The Woodfield offers Sat Specials, therefore, you can get better deal.

Ill have to pick the one at Prospect.

The ORIGINAL

THIS is the original Sakura restaurant and it is NOT affiliated in any way to the Woodfield Sakura. Don't get the two confused! Whenever I crave sushi, I always go to Sakura (Mt. Prospect). Sure, you can find cheaper sushi elsewhere (e.g., Todai), but this place serves REAL sushi. There is a difference between the authentic sushi you get here versus the other places--try for yourself and write a review.

Best sushi restaurant

Sakura offers the freshest sushi that I have ever had. Service is awesome, all the waitress will greet you with a smile as soon as you walk in. They will occasionally also try to have conversations with you. The atmosphere is relaxing and they have beautiful Japanese artworks posted on the walls. They also have special traditional Japanese rooms for large groups. On the weekend, they offers sushi special, I would highly recommend that special. Their seaweed salad is really good, they include 3 different types of seaweed, crab meat (not fake crab), and shrimp. I also recommend their cold udon noodles. As for sushi, they are all very fresh, they have the best tasting Salmon!!
