A Flop House

The Lefferts Hotel is a notorious flop house in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. Go there at your own risk! It is truly a shame. Clinton Hill is a beautiful brownstone community and this hotel is a cancer! Why would Moses Fried and the Prince Hotel Group use this beautiful building as a flop house is beyond any reason. Any "true business man" would turn the property into condos, make his money and allow to the community to continue its organic growth. Rather, the owners hold the entire community hostage and profit on the misery of others.

Seedy No-tell Motel in Beautiful Clinton Hill

I wish I had known what I was getting myself into when I googled a hotel that was within walking distance to Easter Parkway for the Caribbean Day Parade in 2005. The place is either a brothel or a housing tenement for mostly African immigrants, probably both. It was beyond nasty, I didn't even want to sleep on the sheets that were stained and yellow. I regretfully took a bird bath in the rickety "jacuzzi", which presence stuck me as even more odd considering the face that there wasn't a shower or white towels. They were mainly the same decaying shade of pale yellow as the sheets.

Me and my freind were the only people in the building that seemed to have any hope left, everyone else had this hollow look in their eyes as they peered out into the stairwell scantily dressed with clothing hanging from the windows of their rooms. Those that roamed the halls all stared at us like we were invading a very private world and were very much not welcome.

Besides having to be buzzed out of the place, we had to leave our keys at the door, the (hourly!!) rates were posted on a small sheet of paper taped and retaped to the inside of the cashier's bulletproof box. I didn't want to make eye contact with anyone there and couldn't wait to get the hell out.

I wish I'd read reviews before I decided to stay here, my friend has never let me forget that I chose this place. It was scary and dirty and should be leveled. No one deserves to have to stay here (immigrant, tourist, felon, etc...) despite the rates they were charging$80/day. I'm sure long term tenants get a discount, but it's still not worth it. Staying the night here felt like an episode of Fear Factor.
