To Wine or snack at Pete's

Trying to find a lunch that was not fast food, I found myself at Pete's. It is a local store that has a deli in the back were you walk up and fill out your sandwich order. There is a wide variety of meats, cheese, and fillers to make the sandwich your own.

This store is also has a wide selection of wines, along with items that a small local grocery market should have (i.e. toiletries, crackers, fruits/vegetables, breads, dairy).

This local market is great to stop is to pick up a sandwich, or that last minute things you need to dinner.

Great sandwiches and wine

Pete’s is a great local grocery – but it does two totally different things extremely well. Sandwiches and wine. In a neighborhood with few only a few restaurants – we are always looking for a tasty, inexpensive place to grab a quick bite – for lunch. Pete’s is the spot. Totally unrelated they have some of the cheapest prices on wines in town. They have become my sole supply for champagne. They have lots of options both expensive and inexpensive. If you have questions about wine – they always take time to help you find what you want.

THE spot for sparkly

If you are in the market for champagne, you would do yourself a disservice to not visit Pete's. Not sure where I've ever seen more selections, including some great Prosecco and Cava. You can literally spend 6.99 a bottle, or 400 a bottle, and their always helpful staff will do their best to get you what you want.

Should Been...

This is a total no-brainer: Anyone who didn't vote Pete's Number One hasn't shopped there. Period. Pete's, along with Town & Country Market on Bainbridge, is so far superior to every other wine shop in the area that there really isn't any comparison. They're as knowledgeable as McCarthy & Scheiring, have more items than Esquin, and NOBODY beats their prices. I shop at every wine shop in this region and the only ones that compare at all are T&C and Grape Choice. I know this sounds pedantic as hell but I stand by every word. Pete's in in a class by itself. If you haven't shopped there, GO!!!

TERRIBLE customer service

To Whom it May Concern:

I am writing today as a SEVERELY upset customer. I wrote and e-mail yesterday requesting a wine and asking how much I should order for a wedding of 150 people. The response I got was nothing short of appalling.

I did not catch the name of the man who called (he has a very deep voice) but his was very rude and condescending.. In the course of our conversation I was asked if I "knew what RSVP meant", was told that if I order too much wine then "if a person leaves and wraps his car around a tree I am liable" and was asked "if I have ever had real champagne". Needless to say I will NEVER order form your shop and will strongly discourage others as well. The tone and nature often call was completely unnecessary - I was trying to buy almost 4 cases of wine from them!

good prices at a cost!

We were very excited to find Pete's because they have a great selection and good prices. The staff are very helpful in selecting wines based on what we said we like. For a "go get a bottle of wine" - GREAT place!
Now, onto why they get only 2 stars...
We purchased our wine, beer, and champagne for our wedding from Pete's because they advertised 1. excellent pricing, 2. delivery to the venue at the correct temperature and 3. that they would allow us to return anything we did not consume.
1. The wine prices were pretty good, but not much better than other places (at least for what we selected), even for several cases. The deal on the champagne was excellent.
2. They agreed to delivery at 5PM then called a few days later - a week before the wedding - and said they didn't have enough staff scheduled and that the delivery would have to be at 3PM. The beverages needed to stay cold for over 3 hours instead of the 1 hour we'd set up. We had the caterers come prepared to chill it.
3. The day after our wedding I discovered the delivery receipt had "No Returns" written on it. This was AFTER they agreed when they took our money that they would take back any overage. They did not advise us on quantities or say that we were ordering more than they thought we needed. They did not mention that they would take back only a certain amount or that they would only take back unopened cases - all of which turned out to be true. When we called they said that they decided not to allow us returns because they were worried that we'd bought too much and would attempt to bring too much back. Information that would have been useful BEFORE the purchase! They agreed to take back a small amount of the overage - we got stuck with a lot more than they took back. It felt dishonest to have this happen AFTER we gave them the money (around $1,200) and AFTER the event was over.
So, I would encourage anyone using this store to get it in writing BEFORE giving up the money! They do have great selection and the employees were always very helpful with suggestions about what to try.
