Good Docs, Less Good Service.
There are many gifted doctors and staff at LIVS but going there can be a hellish experience. An hour plus wait to see a doctor is not unusual - even to just pick up an animal. Doctors and staff are inflexible about accommodating clients' schedules even by a few minutes. There is always an excuse - overbooking, emergencies, etc. but in the many years I have been taking animals there it has never changed. This is a place that seriously needs a management overhaul. I have been to other top notch veterinary facilities but have never consistently experienced the inconvenience and inflexibility I have here. It's a shame because LIVS has some gifted doctors and wonderful staff. However, there is something odd in a neurological staff that can or will not prescribe psychotropics like Prozac and instead will recommend an expensive and useless animal behaviorist. After wasting lots of time and money with the behaviorist, a mild dose of Prozac prevented my unmanageable dog from being put down.

HERHSEY' S STORY
My 1st experience with LIV was Jan.'09 Hershey (my chocolate lab),needed surgery. She was under the care of Dr.Marino. I told him I just lost my parants 6 months ago & I couldn't lose my dog. The surgery went well & I was very satisfied. Dr. Marino was great at calling me & keeping me updated as to Hershey's progress. He promised everything would be fine & he was right.

Great place-GREAT Dr.
I've been going to LIVS for the past 6 months. My dog has cancer and was going to die if I didn't bring him there. They did a special treatment on him that no other place offered. 6 months later my dog is still with me and hopefully for a lot longer. There have been many bumps in the road the past 6 months, but I will tell you that the staff has been amazing , especially Dr Infernuso. He has been by far everything I could have asked for and more in a Surgeon/Vet. He has taken the journey with my dog and I. He's been there every step of the way. He's called me many times on weekends, mornings, evenings as well as his days off to check on us. You don't find many people like him. He's professional, caring and compassionate. With him its not about ego or the money. You can tell he truly loves animals as well as his job and it shows! I would highly recommend Dr Infernuso. I can't thank him enough. I don't know what we would do without him?????

There is a place like home for Toto's
Upon entering L.I. Vet Specialists the first time, I was amazed at the atmosphere and elegance of the environment. I felt as if I was in a hospital for humans. My Chanel was in need of two total hip replacements and two patella luxations. The care that she received was amazing. More amazing was the work of Doctor Marino, who I researched was one of two doctors in the U.S. who performed the nano hip replacement. He took the time to explain and for me to understand. Chanel's knees were done by Doctor Infernuso who, along with his team took unbelievably great care of Chanel. When Chanel became quite ill, he would call me to inform me of Chanel's progress. If he couldn't, he made sure a staff member did. On his days off he would go and check on her and report to me.I have to admit, I was quite impressed and amazed that he cared for Chanel almost as much as I did. Veterinary Office
Where do I begin. I have been there several times with 2 Shihtzus. Every visit has been exceptional. They diagnose and treat like no other office I have been too. Once I was charged for a procedure in full and once the Doctor got a closer look at my baby while she was under anesthesia . they decided we could treat her with medication instead of surgery - refunded my money. If your vet is treating your pet more than once for the same problem - get a referal here. If your vet tells you your pet has glucoma - Go to Dr. Sapienza for a 2nd opinion. You could save his/her sight! THEY ARE THE BEST!!!

Amazing!!
When my dog Bubbles was attacked and mauled she was on the brink of death. Her wounds were life-threatening, and she needed immediate care and many surgeries. I rushed her to Long Island Vet Specialists where they immediately began working on her. Her surgeon Dr. Infernuso, is nothing short of a miracle-worker. He operated on Bubbles for many hours that day, and performed life saving surgery. Dr. Infernuso kept me informed of Bubbles condition via phone two times a day, while she was still in critical condition after surgery. He explained all the procedures that were performed, answered all of my questions, and was so caring and compassionate. I cannot put into words the gratitude that I have for Dr. Infernuso and all of the wonderful support staff at Long Island Vet Specialists. They were so caring and gave my Bubbles the best possible treatment that she could receive. If it were not for Dr. Infernuso I may not have my Bubbles with me today. Dr. Infernuso met with me each time we had to go back for bandage changes. He took the time to talk with me and reassure me of Bubbles recovery process.
