Great Dim Sum and great service
I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. A good selection of Dim Sum mainstays, pork buns were flavorful, su mai and shark fin are both recommended. This was the best dim sum outside of San Francisco. Prompt service and the lunchtime hostess was a charm!Great dim sum
I was raised near Oakland Chinatown and this place is as close to authentic as I've found in Sacramento. The dim sum is fantastic!! Highly recommended for a business lunch.Good Food marred by Poor Health Insp. History
Well, I went to this restaurant after a glowing review in the Sacramento Bee and it was good. After having moved to Sac from the Bay Area where Dim Sum restaurants are everywhere, it was nice to find a quality Dim Sum place. The reality of Sacramento, is that the restaurant scene is nowhere near as developed as in the Bay Area. New Canton was a pleasant find. Now I'm not so sure. I wish I had read the previous reveiwers claim of a vermin in the food and the closure of this restaurant by the county health insp.. I went online and viewed the county inspection reports and I was disgusted. Not only did this restaurant get shut down in 7/06 for vermin infestation, but it has been shut down before for the same thing. Plus it's had many other MAJOR violations. I think their record on inspections is terrible. I encourage anyone considering eating at this restaurant to view these inspection reports online and form their own opinion. I for one will not go back until I see several more consistent passable inspections. (Green) If anyone can recommend another good and clean Dim Sum place, please let us know.No shark fin soup, please
* Shark finning refers to the removal and retention of shark fins and the discard at sea of the carcass. The shark is most often still alive when it is tossed back into the water. Unable to swim, the shark slowly sinks toward the bottom where it is eaten alive by other fish.I Would not eat there
Looking for a place in sac to have dim sum and came across this place after reading reviews about health inspections I looked for myself...please go look in 2008 alone they have had to have ALL of the inspections re-done....both were yellow cards and the inspector did a good job at detailing how gross this place really is ...lets just say mold in the ice bins and employee ear wax is not my cup of tea..thank you to those who saved me from eating at this place..here is the link to go look for yourself, this is the actual inspection reports...food inspect . sac county . netVery good dim sum
I was brought here by a local resident (I'm from New York City and travel extensively to San Francisco) and the dim sum was comparable to what I'd find in New York City's and San Francisco's better dim sum restaurants. The quality was very good and the variety was quite extensive although some dishes (Dau Foo Far, Pai Kwuht) sold out around the time we were there. Their Har Cheong Fun, Foo Pey Guin, Ngau Pai Yip, Siu Mai and Har Gow were first rate as well as their Shark Fin Dumplings (we Chinese have been eating sharks fin for millenia so that treehugger with a rant about sharks can go shove his views where the sun doesn't shine and just resort to intravenous feeding instead). The cost was also comparable with New York's and San Francisco's Chinatowns (i.e., it was very reasonable). I didn't see any of the health issues that other diners reported although the vermin and insect infestations and mould would be valid concerns. However, inspection reports for 2008 found at the mentioned website in another reviewer's post show passes and conditional passes with no failures so I don't know what that other reviewer was harping about. I cannot give a higher rating than 4 stars or "Recommended" because I have not tasted their dinner menu yet so I cannot evaluate their entire menu. Thanks to those of you who warned me about this place
I went here years ago and thought this was a great place. Today I going to take some friends here until I read the reviews and thank goodness I did. I followed the advice of one of the writers who said we should look up the health inspectors report at sac county. net. OMG, it was disgusting! Even more shocking was the fact that this place has been shut down more than once for the same violations. I mean cockroaches, a live frog with a red blister jumping around where food is prepared---EWWWW! That was enough not to mention pages of other violations. I can't believe this place was allowed to reopen under any terms. It is obvious that management does not care about public safety and health. Thanks again for the warning. I will never ever go here.NOT A GREAT PLACE, ANYMORE!!!
I USE TO RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY, NOT ANYMORE. ON MY RECENT VISIT, I FOUND OUT THAT THE RESTAURANT WAS SOLD AND THAT NEW MGMT HAD TAKEN OVER. I WAS WORRIED THAT THE FOOD WOULD BE DIFFERENT, BUT THE STAFF SAID IT WAS THE SAME , NO DIFFERENCE. BOY, :"THAT WAS A BIG FAT LIE", MAYBE THEY DON'T NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE BUT I DO. FOOD QUALITY IS WAY DOWN, PLATE SIZE IS DOWN AND THE SERVICE IS NON-EXISTENT. THINK ABOUT THIS, THEY CHARGED ME $8.50 FOR A FRIED RICE THAT HAD OLD DRIED UP GREEN ONIONS, LETTUCE THAT WAS BLACK ON THE EDGES, AND PRACTICALLY NO EGG, BASICALLY IT WAS JUST "FRIED RICE". CAN ANYONE RECOMMEND ANOTHER DECENT CHINESE RESTAURANT IN SACTO?Worldwide > United States > Sacramento, CA > Chinese Restaurants
