so excited to find this place
Great Service, great food and prices. This place is very clean and the food delcious. So nice to have this place in my neighborhood!Great sushi - the rest, not so much
Close to home, Meeka offers the best sushi in the barren restaurant wasteland that is Gresham. Wonderfully prepared and generously portioned without being too much. My friend had the Udon, which was delicious, but my Miso was salty and had tiny chunks of soggy tofu. Going against the wonderful presentation is the use of the cheapest available hashi (chopsticks). Eating was almost made unpleasant my the splintery wood odor. I'll bring my own until they spend a few bucks on some restaurant quality sets. The best sushi ever
Jay, the chef, is amazing. The restaurant is family owned, and Jay's wife works the morning shift as a waitress! The quality of the food is excellent, and I got to say that I am addicted to Meeka: I eat there once or twice a week, and I never get tired of it. I had to travel to Saburo's sushi house to eat great japanese food, and now I am so happy that I got one so close to where I live. You should try it at least once guys: believe me, you won't regreat it.Best Hidden Jewel in Portland
After moving to the culinary wasteland that is East Multnomah County, we were pleasently surpsied to find Meeka. As long time fans of Mio Sushi, there came a point when we realized that this little hole in the wall was actually BETTER. The fish is fresh, the rolls creative and the staff friendly. On many occasion a new creation of the chef/owner (Jay) will arrive at our table and without fail it is always fantastic. This place needs to do two things; get better chopsticks and raise their prices. The meal that would cost me $40 anywhere in town is $25 here. I almost feel guilty! Very highly recommended.Great small Japanese restaurant in neighborhood shopping center
Not fancy but the food is very good. I had the Sashimi and the fish was very fresh. I am looking forward to having their sushi . They have a variety of other Japanese dishes including teriyaki, tempura and tonkatsu. Service was quick and friendly. If you are looking for good authentic Japanese food without the hype, go to Meekas.not too bad sushi
This place is pretty good. Sushi was good for the price, and somewhat better than Koji. Their salad dressing was too thick and creamy for traditional japanese dishes. Not bad for a strip mall
Located in a strip mall in Gresham south of Hwy 84 and off 181st, this sushi restaurant is pretty good and reasonably priced. It was about an average of $1/piece of sushi and they had a nice selection. If you want to go shoeless in the traditional Japanese way, you can do that here. Two drawbacks to this place were that the inside of the restaurant was cold and the service was slow. I?ve been here twice so the drawbacks weren?t enough to keep me from coming back. The people waiting on me have been nice and polite.Best Sushi in Oregon
My husband and I are sushi junkies. Having lived in places that offer sushi at super high prices (California, Colorado, Hawaii) it was so nice to find Meeka. The best sushi in Oregon and you cannot beat the prices. We have tried many many sushi restaurants in Portland, and although some are excellent, they just don't beat Meeka.Decently priced, average sushi.
I decided to try Meeka after reading the reviews here. We recently moved, and Meeka is quite a bit closer to us than the restaurant we used to frequent. We had a party of three on a Thursday night. Meeka has a nice layout and a decent amount of seating for its size. The restaurant was empty, with only two or three couples that were dining simultaneously throughout our meal. Of course, we were seated promptly, and our drinks were out quickly. We ordered tempura and a crab appetizer prior to placing our dinner order (both were very good, though the portions were a bit small). The appetizers soon vanished, and the sushi didn't arrive as promptly as we would have liked; though we did have one cooked roll that may have accounted for the drag, it would have been nice if they'd served our appetizers a bit closer to sushi time. We ordered three rolls, and all were very good, though average rather than exceptional. The big turn-off for us was the waitstaff. Though friendly, we were stared at for the entire duration of our meal. One waitress stood about 10 feet from us, and she seemed to blink only a handful of times. It was, for lack of a better word, weird. The awful pop music playing also put a damper on things. Overall, the sushi was pretty good -- but we still would prefer to take the longer drive to our usual sushi restaurant.good food, good service
We went to Meeka tonight and it was delicious. I got the sushi combo, and my husband got the sukiyaki. the sukiyaki was flavorful, and the sushi was fresh and delicious. The waitresses were attentive. I never ran out of green tea. Definitely will go back again and again.Simple, traditional Japanese eating
This place was introduced to me by my friend from Kyoto and I went there with her family. The waitresses were very polite and were able to answer questions for those unfamiliar with the menu options. I got some sushi and was very impressed. They have many varieties and a chef who is not afraid of special orders. (I reccomend the volcano roll.) I have been going back on a frequent basis since.More than the only sushi restaurant in East County
Living on the Gresham borders, there is not much out this way for really decent restaurants let alone Sushi. This restaurant is quite simply fabulous. The service is always outstanding, the sushi fresh and so very very tasty, the plates are beautiful to the eye and the price is right. It's official for me... Meeka has the best sushi in PDX
I kept telling everyone how great Meeka was and since they never heard of it, they kept telling me Mio Sushi was THE Place to go in PDX for sushi. So I did. It was okay, but it didn't even come close to Meeka for being the freshest most authentic and heavenly sushi that I have personally experienced. For conveyor belt sushi, Sushi Land is still top drawer, but for a real treat, just once....I dare ya....check out Meeka. You won't be disappointed. The best sushi!
If the service was better this restaurant would have sure gotten 5 stars, because the sushi is some of the best I have ever had. We order take out a lot from here and call it in. They never actually start making it until I arrive to pick it up which can be really irritating. One of the few times I did an eat in the wait staff were not attentive at all, and we actually had to ask for refills. Regardless of all that I keep going back because the food is too good to pass up.Horrible service. Rude waitress. Dirty restaurant.
So we sit down on the uncomfortable wooden booth near the window. The waitress told us to take off our shoes, which was uncomfortable and rude. But we obliged. It's how it's done in Japan, but this was hardly authentic, and quite dirty. Good thing I had socks on because you could get a foot fungus on that floor.Simple and good.
I have been eating sushi for a while now and I'm always looking for a simple place to get take-out meals. Meeka is perfectly located between work and home and they have always been more than friendly to me. I always modify a roll on the menu and they have never had an issue or charged me extra for it. The chef and all the waitresses are very welcoming and the food is always fresh, it has been the only source for my monthly sushi fix for some time and I have no intentions in changing it!Wonderful Sushi, skip the regular food
I went with my two siblings and ordered 3 sushi items and 3 food items. The sushi was excellent quality better than most commerical places are taste fresh. We ordered the tuna roll, uni and creamy scallop everything has the taste of seafood instead of covered in strong sauces.Sushi was excellent, soup, salad not so good
I ordered their dinner combination, you can choose 2 or 3, traveling on business I did not eat lunch and went for the 3 choices. I had the rib eye steak w/ onions, fried dumplings and Teriyaki salmon, with this you also get Miso, salad and 4pc california roll. I ordered Hot tea also. I did not drink the hot tea, wasn't sure if it really had tea in it at all. First dissapointment was the Miso, it was very fishy and the salad dressing was a little off. When the main courses came the presentation was really nice and everything tasted great. The california roll was delicious also. I got all this food for only $16.50 so I thought that was great also. So, as long as you don't order the Tea or soup, you should have a pretty enjoyable and affordable meal. I am actually getting lunch from there today, ordering sushi and chicken teriyaki.Awesome Sushi
We love this place, my friend and I go there 3 or 4 times a month. They have the best sushi and there is this one with Mango and another with banana. To die for....the waitresses are always so sweet. We love this place. My favorite sushi place
I love Meeka Sushi. There are a few places in Portland where I like to go for sushi and Meeka is by far my favorite. In fact, I'm eating sushi from Meeka right now! I work just a few blocks away from a decent little sushi place but I will go out of my way to pick up lunch at Meeka.Worldwide > United States > Portland, OR > Sushi and Japanese Restaurants
