another hit-and-run!

My review could be identical to the one I just read here. Someone completely smashed in the door of my nearly new Cross Country in a parking lot and just left! No note or anything, I still can't believe that. Anyway, Mathews fixed it in one week. Not just a repair, a complete replacement of new door and mirror and everything. Their paint job/finish was absolutely identical to the rest of the car, you can't even tell anything was ever done. Extremely helpful, friendly and courteous.

When your car gets smashed

Two of our Volvos have been rear-ended over the years, and our dealership recommended Matthews Carlsen for the repair work. They made our cars look like new, and worked directly with the other party's insurance company to collect payment. They were able to get us up and running in a reasonable amount of time, and the staff were very courteous and easy to deal with.

If they are better than bad shops (as I was told), then god help us!

Took in my car to them and got just about the worst work done..... ever.

1st time, took it in and got the rear end done (had to re-paint the rear hatch and part of the roof, repaint the reap bumper cover and install new glass in the rear hatch). Got back to work and noticed that the color was off. Sure enough, got the car in real light, and the pigment of the paint was missing/fading out on the right side of the hatch. Not a little either... but A LOT. Drove the car back and then had to haggle with the guy there about the bad job they did (in addition, on the left side of the hatch, they didn't fully buff the new paint and it had obvious dull spots that were rough to the touch). After having to spend about 15 minutes to actually convince the guy that the work was substandard (which it clearly was), he said that they would re-do it. Which, at least to their credit, they did. I got the car back and the color was right, but about a week later I found another unbuffed spot on the roof

very disappointed

I made the mistake of taking my Audi A4 to Mathews Carlsen. I am really disappointed with the quality of their work.

The paint does not match, body panels are unaligned, molding is crooked and it took an extra week to complete.

I do not have enough time to repeatedly return for follow up work. Also since I have to get a rental it costs me more money. It is not to much to ask to do the work right the first time.

lacking quality

It was a big mistake to get my Corvette repaired at Mathews Carlsen.

I am very disappointed with the work that was done...
--the edges of body panels don't line up,
--paint not properly matched,
--poor paint quality,
--over spray on other parts of the car,
--new scratches on other parts of car,
--dent is still visible.

I can not recommend this body shop.

worst car repair/body shop

Do not have anything done here. This is the absolute worst car repair/ body shop I have ever experienced.

I had to take my car back 3 times and it still does not look right. The paint does not match, door does not shut properly, window is leaking water and there is over spray inside the door.

I got tired of arguing with employees about how bad the work looks. I will also file a BBB report and contact my insurance.

Is it too much to get what you pay?

A bad experience

Took it in and got the rear end done (re-paint the rear hatch, part of the roof, rear bumper cover and install new glass). Later that day noticed that the pigment of the paint was missing/fading out on the right side of the hatch. Not a little, but A LOT. Then had to haggle with them about the bad job they did (in addition, on the left side of the hatch, there were had obvious dull spots in the paint that were rough to the touch). After spending about 15 minutes trying to politely point out obvious substandard work, they begrudginly said they would re-do it. Got the car back and the color was right, but I later found another unbuffed spot on the roof and that they had put my roof mounted Yakima bike carrier on completely misaligned. Then on a rainy morning driving to work I had to use the rear window wiper only to see if flailing randomly around. Turns out that they didn't tighten down the wiper bolt properly and now the wiper shaft is stripped so the wiper still doesn't work properly even after tightening. At this point, though, I'm afraid to go back only to have them mess up again. I also noticed a rattling in the hatch and a few months later I saw the trim panel for showing signs of pulling away from the hatch. Turns out that when reinstalling the trim they bent MOST of the retaining pins on the left side! Unfortunately, since I found out about the last item about a year later I don't feel its worthwhile going to them to complain (and my prior experience gafter oing back to them within 2 days was bad enough).

Summary:

1. Paint job was awful (how does a body shop not mix/apply paint properly?), and the excuses they offered before begrudgingly re-doing their work were pathetic.
2. Their reconditioning the paint after application showed a complete lack of attention to detail that you would expect from a shop supposedly used to working on $50K+ cars.
3. Their reassembly of the car was not only unsatisfactory, but actually caused more damage.
