Horrible Customer Service
I would like to say that I have been a loyal customer to Lupie's ever since I moved to Charlotte. However, I have never had the displeasure of meeting Lupie myself. The reason I mention this is because as we all know that Lupie's is known for there generous portions. The other night my husband and I split a Chef salad and we could not believe our eyes. The salad we are talking about is massive and could feed four. The point is that when we received our salad it was like going to Apple bee's and ordering a side salad. We first mentioned it to our waiter and he told us that we would have to take it up with Lupie ourselves.Over Rated
I have tried this place several times now and I am calling it quits. The food is medeocre at best. Burgers are ok but I can find a better burger at dozen places in Charlotte. I had the worst piece of meatloaf ther I have ever had, it was actually inedible and it was the daily special! It tasted like it had sand in it, it was really grainy. I have heard so many people talk about how good this place is and I guess people have different tastes but I think the food is bad. Also the menu is very limited. You would think that as few things as they have on the menu they would have perfected them all.Very much a neighborhood joint type place
Finally got around to eating here after hearing about and reading about this place. It's very casual. Got there just in time - seated right away, and 10 minutes later there was a line out the door. We split the vegetarian burger and the vegetarian chili. The burger was average - don't get mustard on it - it overpowers all the other flavors and even wiping it off won't make it go away. The vegetarian chili was pretty good - if you're used to meat chili, you'll definitely notice the difference, but if you're OK with meat substitutes, it's good. You go there for the scene and for affordable food. Not the best food you'll ever eat, but a good experience.Wow, that was bad.
Thursday night at 8 PM, we were greeted and seated immediately. Good start. Unfortunately, I asked two questions about beer ("Do you have any drink specials?" and "What do you have on tap?"). The waiter---a bearded, scruffy-looking loser dressed as if he put on what he found in a dumpster down the street---suddenly turned and walked away. We watched for the next ten minutes as he carefully walked from one part of the restaurant to another, casually drinking out of his to-go cup and intentionally ignoring us. Eventually, my wife and I left. No chili is worth that sort of treatment. What's more, we both worked in restaurants. When you hear horror stories about what waiters do to your food, THAT is the guy that does it. Eat at Lupie's at your own risk.Great food .... not fancy
If you are looking for fancy, this is not it. However, if you are looking for good honest food for a fair price, then you have found it at Lupie's. We drive over an hour several times a year to eat here. Our favorite is the vegetable plate. The food is carefully prepared and the quantity is generous. We especially like the mac and cheese, slaw, green beans, and pintos and onions; a nice hunk of corn bread comes with it. The quiche is also very good. Lupie, the owner and creator, is almost always there, which explains the consistency of the food.Excellent burgers
Some of the best burgers and fries in Charlotte in an interesting little shop. It's nice that there are still some non-chain places like this still around.Worldwide > United States > Charlotte, NC > American Restaurants
