Great!!!

Terrific store! So glad to have knowledgeable people to help me. Everything was easy to find and I love going in to see the animals! My daughter spends her own money on her guinea pig so she likes that she can get preowned stuff and...

M.

My husband and I have been here several times over the past few years. When we first started purchasing pet supplies here, it was a nice place to shop and a welcomed change from the larger pet supply stores. The past couple times we have...

Best Place To Shop For Your Animal!

I go to this pet store almost every day! It is one of the only best pet places around this area! I HIGHLY recommend you to go there! They have all kinds of pet toys, pets, pet clothes, and everything to spoil your little creatures! The workers are very friendly to help, and choose your best bet on what to buy. Please go there.

Best pet store anywhere!!!!

I have lived all over the eastern US and as far as I am concerned there is no better pet store anywhere! When I lived in Fayetteville, NC I used to drive to Sanford just to shop there. The prices and selection beat all the other pet stores in the area especially the only other pet store in Sanford. I now live in Winston-Salem and was really excited to find their store here too! I have since met the owner and he is always appreciative for my business. I love the frequent purchase program. It is good to see a small business do well!

Helpless animals suffer for human greed. Only we can change it!

I have gone to this pet store for years, as I was a young child I loved this pet store because of the selection of animals. As time went on I started to realize, "Wow, this is not a good establishment!", but it was my only resort considering my location. The staff has always been helpful and nice except for the "high ups", although helpful and knowledgable are two separate things. In my care I have had over 20 different species of animals from fish to birds, uramastyx to ferrets, rabbits to dogs. I research every animal before I get it for days on end to learn the utmost of the animals behavior, welfare, size, life span, and so on. I have continually gone in this store and heard wrong information given by Let's Pet employees. The store is cluttered to no end, but they did sweep the floor for CHRISTmas I noticed ( Ahhh what a novelty). Oh it is sorta nice that you can buy a used cage all ready for you with all of the fecies from the previous animal already in it, and for the most part those are even over priced. The animals in the store are in poor condition, not only are the cages too small they're also not suitable for the type animal they are housing. For instance, they have a beautiful Macaw in a round cage, well birds aren't even supposed to be in round cages because in some since it causes them to go mad and feather pick. They have many birds that are way too big or overcrowded for their enclosure. They have snakes that are supposedly handled but yet the people that work in that department won't even get them out. The snakes dont have adequate heat or lighting. They have snakes with skin so lose and wrinkled that you could pull it around their body twice, a sign of malnutrition. If you can even see the fish through the algea I guess you could actually pick one out. It's sad that we have such a disgusting place setting an influence for kids and first time pet owners. I wish I could take in every animal there but with the insane prices it would be impossible.

Take your business elsewhere.

I have always been an avid lover of animals. The proper care and treatment of our animal friends, wild or captive, has always been extremely important to me. All this is besides the point though...

Yes, Lets Pet has been around for years and due to its location is one of the most popular pet stores in my general region. Yes, they "rescue" a lot of animals from unfortunate situations. And yes I think the whole "rescue" concept is a wonderful thing. (If done properly) However, I think Lets Pets rescues are going from the frying pan and into the fire, so to speak.

Rescue by definition is to free or deliver from confinement, violence, danger, or evil.

Confinement? Violence? Danger? Evil? If their rescues are so free from these why do they have bird cages padlocked? Why is there a Goffin Cockatoo in a cage designed for a SMALL bird - No toys. Why are there snakes with no heat source other than an exposed light bulb (that could potentially injure a snake) in a less-than-10 gallon cell? And that's only in some cells. Not to mention all of the cells are open-aired. With diseases and parasites like IBD and mites all they would need is one snake to get sick, the rest would soon follow. Why are most of their lizards missing tails? Why did they have a frozen corn snake in their freezer? Why is there always a mountain of feces in the ferrets aquariums? I also ask myself why the same feces is in the same position in the same snake cage for weeks at a time? Why do their employees have absolutely no knowledge about half of what the store carries?

I could go on and on.

But I have an educated guess for all these inquiries.

Lets Pet does NOT give their animals proper care AND THAT'S A FACT. They do NOT "rescue" pets, they DAMN them. If anything, someone needs to rescue pets from Lets Pet. Or maybe someone needs to remind them of what "RESCUE" means. Please, if you love animals, do not support Lets Pet. Do it for our animals. Do what you know is right.

Good downhill over the years

I worked at the Sanford location about 8yrs ago. AT that time we had a decent manager who, through all her faults, really knew a lot about animals. She had been in the business for years and could answer any question. She wasn't always polite, or easy to work with, but she was definetly knowledgeable.

The owners are greedy and all about money. While I worked there we were never allowed to acknowledge that an animal would bite. Hello! Anything that has teeth can and will bite. Even the most cuddly bunny can bite.
We had snakes that would hiss as you walked by the cage, but we were supposed to smile and pretend everything was fine and dandy. I refused to touch some animals because I knew they were aggressive, and seriously, minimum wage wasn't worth it.

We always strive to keep the store clean, but I know from my visits to the Winston Salem store that that was something unique to our store.

Now, in the past year I have had occasion to go back to the Sanford store and I have to say, the place has gone down hill. The shelves are bare. The employees often act as if you are bothering them by merely being there. There have been times I could have easily walked about with 50LBS bags of dog food and no one would have even realized I'd come in the store to begin with. I didn't, but I could have.

I have top echo the reviewer who said they wished Sanford would get a decent pet store. The choices we have leave much to be desired.

Best place to shop for pets and supplies!

I have worked in the Winston store for the last 4 years and never saw anything negative like things listed in some of the reviews. We never have had any macaw in a round cage only cockatoos as the books recommend. Employees have a daily routine we must follow. Animal cages (including the ferrets) are cleaned EVERY morning - and yes, they always go in the same corner of the cage. The snakes eat and go once a week routinely. There is no way to see the same feces week after week. We hand feed our baby birds and keep them in quarantine until they wean so people will not handle them unsanitized. We do not claim to be a rescue group. Many times we come in to work to find abandoned animals on our doorstep which we either take in or call a rescue group to come and get them. We have a vet who is on call and we have a vet do a review of us yearly. This is voluntary. The snake cages have appropriate heat sources that are not dangerous and we have not had any sick reptiles. We do not get them out unless someone is interested in buying one as it is unhealthy for them. 3 employees have snakes of their own - we are not afraid. There are padlocks on some of the birds' cages to keep people out not the birds in. The owner regularly takes birds, animals, and reptiles to schools, scout troups and other children's groups FREE OF CHARGE. This is done in his spare time as he has another job that he had to take several years ago as the stores alone do not make enough money to support his family. I do not see greed here only generosity in his time and money as I believe the only reason he has kept the store open is his love of animals and his feeling of obligation to provide his 15 employees a great place to work. Our used cages are cleaned before being put out for sale. We have the best prices in town. These reviews are a personal attack on me as I take pride in the care and effort I put forth in my job. I think the negative reviews are coming from disgruntled former employees.

I love it!!

The owner came to my kid's 4-H club meeting with his pets and gave a great talk about them. The staff is very helpful and the prices are the best around. All the animals are very well cared for and the staff knows all there is to know about them. I can always get what I need here.
