I have really cut back on movie-going in the past several years. The films often seem like poor quality for the buck (wait for rental), the audience is rude (chatchatchat) and the snacks are bad. Seriously.

But fans of indie and foreign films in L.A. know they are in for a treat when they go to Laemmle theatres. Laemmle brings in the best of smaller films...you'll see these flicks on the nomination lists of many film awards. The greates thing is leaving the theatre feeling like you just saw a real piece of art, an expression worth investing 2 hours of your life into.

The theatres themselves are in very good condition, with nice screens and seats.

Important to me is the respect level among audience members. You'll hear much less chatting and see fewer people getting up for snacks in the middle of the show.

Speaking of snacks---the food is better than other theatre food (though equally pricy). You can grab some Toblerone, Seattle's Best coffee, and a cream cheese fill

The Laemmle theatres are the best movie places to see independent flicks. They have the best selection of all the recently released indie films. This is where you get to see quality pictures and documentaries that depict true life. They have student discounts and matinee prices. They are located all over Los Angeles. The one in Santa Monica is nice because it is near the promenade so you can get a bite before your movie starts.

good movies

Laemmle's Theater always has at least one good movie showing. If you are interested in independent or foreign films, come here. The scrrrens are good, even if the lobby is a bit rundown. Plenty of parking in the vity lot across the street, and the Promenade is just a block away. Real Popcorn with real butter too.

I love their snacks: the popcorn with real butter is so good!!
