Overpriced & Slow Service
This was our first and last visit to Kokopelli's . We were greeted and seated in a large room with a kids play area, which immediately intrigued our five year old. He immediately ran over to play. As we were sitting at the table watching him all I could think about was how badly I wanted to take him into the bathroom and wash his hands. Though having a play area is a great idea, it would be much appreciated if they would take the time to clean the toys! There was dirty kid fingerprints all over everything. Seriously, if you have multiple kids playing with things, cleaning them nightly is a must. The menu showed alot of variety, and I was torn between the french toast and the fajitas. I hadn't had fajitas for a long time so I opted for the chicken variety, while my hubby ordered the steak fajitas. Both kids ordered belgian waffles. We waited quite a bit for our food to arrive, even though the dining room was pretty much empty. When our fajita plates arrived we were seriously disappointed. At $14.95 you would figure they would give you a decent portion. Well, atop an overflowing pile of onions and peppers sat six to eight small pieces of chicken. This may of equaled a small chicken breast at most. The same can be said for the wimpy steak. The kids waffles were ok, but it's kind of hard to mess them up. Our bill came to over $50 and we did not order dessert or any extras. We had a buy one, get one free entree coupon and they proceeded to take off one of the kids meals at $3.50. Bad bad bad business and mediocre food. I would not recommend this place to anyone.Best Nacho's
While I was in NM for a week on a business trip, I ate at this place 3 times. The nacho's with the carne adovado is the best thing I've ever tasted and you can feed two people from the portion size. The atmosphere was warm in my opinion and the pace was pretty good- which meant there were lots of satisfied customers coming back for more. It was clean and the staff was very attentive to all the customers, not just the designated waitress/waiter. I searched high and low for some good tasting mexican food and I found it here. I'm from Chicago so I have a pretty good palate when it comes to mexican flavor. Don't pass this one up if you're in the Albuquerque or Santa Fe area! We'll worth the trip.Good Mexican Food in the East Mountains
Good basic Mexican Food. I've had the stuffed enchilada's twice (one cheese, one chicken made with blue corn tortillas) and it was good. Ask for vegetables instead of rice. They serve a good corn and zucchini medley which was very tasty. I ordered refried beans and they tasted like they had been reheated numerous times. Salads are pretty pathetic - iceberg with a few shredded carrots and one tomato slice is so not necessary when fresh salad greens (Romaine, Raddicchio, Spinach etc) can be had at Triangle (the local supermarket). The food is average but nothing really exceptional. The prices are reasonable. The ambiance is a little wanting. There are two dining areas. One dining room off to the left is rather cavernous. Off to the right is a dining area with an ajacent kids play area. Then there are tables that line the wall around the bar. I think the tables in the bar area are nicer if only because it is a more intimate feel. The TV's were on but the volume was muted so it was possible to converse during dinner. If you are driving from Santa Fe down highway 14, its a good place to stop for lunch or dinner. They serve breakfast but only on weekends.Worldwide > United States > Sandia Park, NM > Latin American Restaurants
