An up-to-date review for Koji Osakaya is desperately needed despite the harsh remarks made previously. It wasn't more than 2 monthes since my first visit to this joint, and I have still enjoyed my many visits to Koji. The lunch combo's are delicately made and, at the same time, at an affordable cost. The overall taste of its "cooked menu" is much above standards in Portland, whilst the Katsu-Pork Curry Rice brings back vivid memories of popular diner joints in metropolitan Tokyo. The "raw menu" isn't yet something to die for. It hovers slightly above mediocre. Nevertheless, there isn't much else to pick on. Enjoy.Good Sashimi
The spider roll is an interesting adventure but I always focus on the sashimi when I go to Koji. I have not had fresher tuna anywhere. I didn't try a lot of the cooked food, but people were eating it. The tempura was OK, but the overall odor of the cooking oil does not mesh well with the sushi and sashimi. That said, I will go back. Maybe they will have a new kitchen fan by then.amazing tuna sashimi!
I went here on the advice of some friends. I went during a Friday afternoon and got seated promptly. I had some of the best tuna sashimi I've had in a long time. The tuna was glistening and just melted in my mouth. I also was excited to find another of my favorite dishes, cold soba noodles--so refreshing on a hot day. The Unagi I had was also excellent too. I can't wait to go back and try the ramen noodles with miso and more sashimi.Such a disappointment!
Just moved to NE and figured we would get good food at Koji...wrong. I ordered food to go and got there when she told me to, wrong food, cold food and awful sushi. Wouldn't ever go back. Service was friendly, but that is it....such a disappointment. Hate to waste money on bad food.Good variety of japanese cuizine
Great sushi and other selections like box lunches, and rice bowls. The price seems to be average. The place is small and a little cramped but that never bothers me. the staff is friendly and the service is good. Not the best sushi, but not the worst. A good place for lunch!!!Offensive waitress will ruin your meal experience
Okay, if you want to order lots of food, avoid going here. An offensive waitress will tell you that you're ordering too much food several times even when you reconfirm her that you know what you are doing. My husband and I will never go there again. Not only the service is bad, I saw a chef sneezing on the food without covering his mouth. I have never experienced such an offensive behavior.Average, fast-food style sushi
This was my second attempt at finding the perfect sushi restaurant in Portland. It was recommended by a friend of mine who likes to eat here for lunch. Koji's has a large variety of menu items and a casual atmosphere. But that's where the good ends for me. The sushi was very mediocre. And that's what I expected from a chain style restaurant. The fish wasn't bad but it definitely wasn't fresh. This is a good place for the casual sushi eater (who prefers rolls) or for someone who wants a quick bite. But if your looking for an authentic, quality Japanese experience this isn't the place.Great Japanese Cuisine!
Loved the food! Service was very prompt, and they were there to help you with whatever you needed at any time. Hours are very user friendly, and again the food is excellent!Just like being at home
After growing up in Tokyo all my life I find it refreshing to have a place where I feel at home chatting it up with the Japanese staff and mostly authentic food. Thanks guys for making Portland a little closer to home.Very small chain that keeps a level of consistency, and they know how to cook their Tempura.
Way better than any Sushi Train type of resteraunt but not your fancy expensive joint. The fish is fresh (at least at the Wiedler location) and service in very genial. If I wanted to spend a third more for atmospere and presentation I would go to Sinju or Masu. If I just want some good Japenese food I will go Koji.Passable for a Koji
This Koji used to be my favorite... then they changed management and the quality went down-hill.Delicious and affordable!
If you love Japanese food, this place is great! Try the kim chee or the noodle soups. The sushi was okay, too.Worldwide > United States > Portland, OR > Sushi and Japanese Restaurants
