North East Medical Services

North East is an excellent medical service for those in the low income bracket and for those who cannot speak the English language. They are located within Asian communities of San Francisco Chinatown and Leland St. of the Sunnydale district. Their staff was very helpful although the wait could be a drag from times.

Find a dentist at a affordable rate.

This medical service is pretty barebones in terms of service, however they offer one of the best values for those who don't have a lot of cash. There appointments, and waits maybe less then desirable, however they make up for it through the money that you save. There one of the more affordable dental services that I've found. However, if your not patient, or need emergency work done, then this is not the place for you.

If you are not Asian...

I have been to NEMS a total of three times in three years. And while I wish I could say different, the experiences have not been good.

It's a shame too since this clinic offers dental and vision along with general health services. They also have an on-site pharmacy which is convenient.

The only problem is that everytime I have had to go, I get the feeling that I am not welcome there. At first I thought it was my imagination since I was usually the only non-Asian person in the whole building. But after speaking to others including a health care professional who said they are not crazy about us (non-Asians) I realized that I wasn't the only one who felt this way.

Now don't get me wrong. If you are not Asian you will still be admitted and treated as a patient. They will not turn you way. But... you may have to endure some dirty looks and rude treatment. If you are really in a pinch and that doesn't bother you then you should be fine.


Personally, I would rather go somewhere

In NEMS eyes , you are nothing but a number

i'm referring only to the chinatown branch, as the one in sunset and leland are both somewhat friendly-er . i'm chinese and yes after reading the below post about being non-asian, the staff actually treats everyone the same - like crap. they are so overwhelm with their workload that they do not have any time for any extra request or questions. shockingly the doctors are the same or worse. they need to get to the next patient as fast as possible so if you're illness is not life treatening, then here's your pill and now go away or you'll be fine and they systems you think you have are not serious enough for the doctors to really thoroughly check you out or even refer you to a specialist.
i'm only referring to treatment floors, not eye care or dental.
