Hated it!!
Good food but bad service!!! I couldn't get my drink refilled and had to ask several times get my check. The sushi chef saw how frustrated my date and I was and he yelled at the server to get my check. Maybe it was an off night but I spent over $200 for drinks and dinner and expected at least to give me a refill on my plain water.Hot Summer pick
Loved the uber fresh fish and the manager Melanie. She's hysterically funny and very attentive. Made our whole evening. My tip is to get there before your reservation and the sun sets, grab a table on the roof, get your drinks at Typhoon downstairs then sit back and watch the sun set into night as the planes take off and land. Makes for a magical evening that's worth every dime of the hefty bill.My favorite
I had one of the best meals of my life in this restaurant and highly recommend sitting at the bar and ordering the omakase menu. It can be wildly expensive (up to $200 a person) but the dishes--from the uni to the hairy crab--are just divine.Terrible dining experience
"I will never recommend this place to anyone. Period. And it's not because the food is bad. It's actually quite good. But, as other reviewers have noted, they don't tell you the (outrageously) high prices of their daily specials. And if you don't ask, you will be seriously shaken.Fresh Fish but dead on a Saturday night
I went with three friends and none of us had ever eaten here before. We didn't have a pushy wait-person that tried to force the specials on us as some other reviewers have mentioned. We did fnd the service to be lowsy. They never refilled our waters and we had to ask for them to be refilled a few times. The food came out almost on top of the appitizers so the only leasurily dining we got to do was after we had finished eating. The food was good and I would recommend it. We had Spicy Tuna, Soft Shell Crab (yum) and California rolls and everything was incredibly fresh. It's a small place but was completly dead when we went on a Saturday night (but it may have been due to people attending Halloween parties). Worth a try for fresh sushi.DISMAL omakase (and at over $200pp, CRIMINAL) !!
ABSOLUTE WORST value in Los Angeles. For a very unremarkable omakase, our bill for two came to over $420. At $70 per person, I would have walked away unimpressed. At over $200 pp, I was livid.Still my favorite sushi restaurant, better than any sushi restaurant I have been to!!!!!!
I've been going to this place for a couple of years now and the restaurant has yet to disappoint me. Even on a busy Saturday nite 1/19, we were promptly seated and treated like anyone else in the restaurant such as Phil Jackson. As a tip, always make reservations, let them know if there are any special requests and be a little early. It was my birthday last night and they provided impeccable service, top notch food and even went beyond to make my birthday extra special with a great dessert. The food was fresh, exotic, beautifully presented and of course, tasted amazing. Not only was the sushi fresh, but their sauces were unbelievable! Their sauces are original and traditional, but reinvented with a twist and a created a perfect balance with their specialties and sushi/sashimi. Their food may be a little pricey, but if their menu consists of fresh fish (some are brought in from Japan) and creative dishes, it would be fair to say that the final bill should be higher than other restaurants. As for the review below mine, you must have picked the wrong night and ordered the wrong dishes because there is no way that this restaurant is better than Sasabune. If you are on an adventure to seek new tastes and fresh food, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who truly wanted to experience something new and exotic. I can't wait to go back!!the best everything
This is my favorite sushi place of all time. I could write a book on how good this place is. What the chefs do can only be described as art (eating at the bar is a must). You will find exotic fish/crustacean that you will not find anywhere else so make sure to ask the chef what is fresh that day. If you really want an experience (and money is no object) just ask for Omakase at the bar. The chef will create a menu for you based on the freshest items they have coupled with what he thinks you like from talking to you. And you are not going to find teriyaki chicken, beef bowls, or designer rolls like the vegas roll. This place specialized in simplicity and traditional style sushi. Almost forgot, they have real japanese Kobe beef. Everyone should try this at least once.Expensive and bad. STAY AWAY!!!!
We had the Omakase here last night and I can honestly say that I feel violated. I am still really angry 20 hours later.Down with The Hump!
I just read this article on this restaurant and am horrified.Take your money elsewhere
The Hump apparently forgot to list a certain offering on the menu:REPULSIVE
www. ktla. com/news/landing/ktla-santa-monica-whale-meat,0,7465749.storyboycott them they are serving endangered whale
avoid avoid boycott. They have been caught serving endangered whale meat, which is illegal in the usaCaught serving illegal whale meat!!
See recent CNN story of people who worked on the Academy Award winning film "The Cove" (Japanese slaughtering dolphins), did undercover work on this place and found they were serving whale meat from an endangered species call the Sei whale. These women had the samples they were served analyzed, not once but twice, and both times it came back that it was whalemeat from this endangered whale. Do not support illegal activities by this restaurant and these greedy people!BOOO - STAY AWAY
