Great service
I brought a rather expensive silk dress here to be altered. Not only did they do it quickly (within 4 days) but they were friendly and not overpriced. The owner can barely speak english but he is in no way pushy or rude, in fact he pretty much knows exactly what you need done w/out asking! I would definitely recommend this place.Go only if you want your clothes ruined!
Hong Kong Jack Tailor was the worst service experience of my life! I wish I were exaggerating but I'm not. Though his Best of New York review raves about his reasonable prices, he actually charges much more than those rates. To get a pair of pants taken in at the waist is between $20-22 dollars (depending on how "special" he deems them to be), not the $12 or $14 his reviews claim. Apparenty, every garment I took in was very "special" because he nearly doubled his rates for everything. After dropping off 6 pairs of pants and paying an upfront 50% cash only deposit, I came back two weeks later to pick up my things only to find that one pair of pants had actually been hemmed. He lied about why that was saying that we had agreed that he would only do one pair and then if that was done alright, he would do the rest. Pointing out the fact that he had taken a 50% deposit for the cost of all alterations and taken the other pairs as well, measured and pinned, was useless because he just pretended that he didn't understand.Good work
I've used Tailer Jack for years and I've gotten good quality, reliable service (it's ready when promised), and fair pricing. Also, the price is agreed in advance, so there were no surprises. This Guy Actually Ripped Me Off
Hello Potential Unsatisfied Customer:Wow...
I went to Hong Kong Jack's after reading all the glowing reviews on citysearch. After going there, I have to believe that they are making the positive posts themselves. The guy was very eccentric, very brash, and very very stubborn. I came in to have my jeans hemmed... very simple procedure. When I came back to pick them up they were too long, no big deal I thought, just bring them up some more. He started nearly yelling at me, saying that it was the style for them to be that long. Basically telling me I had no idea what style was. Style or no style I know how I want my jeans, and I was the one paying for them. I would avoid this place at all costs. He's rude, pricey, and feigns not being able to speak english when you need him to do something. Who wants to pay for bad service?beware! he may try to rip you off!
have tried jack four times. the work has always been decent, however, he tried to rip me off on my last visit and i vow never to return. i paid in full when dropping of my clothes, but when i went to pick them up, he asked me to pay.....AGAIN! i had showed him my receipt, but he claimed he had no record of me paying (keep in mind his policy is he doesn't perform any work until he receives payment first). he argued that he was doing me a favor by making me pay only once, and that he could even call the police?!?!? this guy is ridiculous and infuriating. there are plenty of places in this city which can do a job just as well as he, and for less money. all the positive media attention has gotten to his head and he doesn't deserve anyone's business. try elsewhere!Excellent Tailoring
I've been going to Jack for years. It is a bit pricey, but totally worth it. I have tried to go to cheaper tailors for the simple jobs only to have to take my items to Jack to have them fixed. He can do anything from hemming pants to totally reworking a jacket. I've always been pleased with his work.THE TAILOR WITH THE BAD ATTITUDE
MOST HORRIBLE MAN When everything goes his way, he speaks a perfect English, however, start questioning him on his mediocre work and all of a sudden he needs a translator. I used his services twice. On both occasions I had to have more alterations done since the job was not well done. The alterations --outrageously over-priced--only consisted of hemming a pair of jeans. First time--they were still too long, second time-- one leg was longer than the other .To my disbelieve, he started to argue with me. Not only does one has to put up with his UNACCEPTABLE attitude but also with his less than satisfactory work. The shop it-self could use a carpet washing, most disagreeable feet odor hits you in the face the moment you enter the place. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE.Best, I mean Worst in New York City
DO NOT SUPPORT HONG KONG TAILOR JACK. Hong Kong Tailor Jack is a rude f**k who should feel lucky he's getting ANY business these days. I saw all these recommendations for their services, so I brought a suit in all the way from Queens to get taken in. He acted like he didn't want to be bothered with the work and said he couldn't do any alterations to the suit, then he INSULTS the suit style (calling it "old", lol, it's 5 years old) and walks away into his "office". I ended up having to lug the suit around in hot weather to find another tailor. He should really be grateful that he has a somewhat successful business, and understand that it's the customers who make or break you. They s**k big time. DO NOT SUPPORT HONG KONG TAILOR JACK!!!He did a lot of good work for me
I lost a lot of weight and needed all of my work suits brought in. He had a good review in New York mag so I called him. He did a house visit, took about a dozen suits and a few shirts, and did them all over a week and dropped them off. They have all fitted really nicely, I have been pleased with the work. I saw all the negative reviews here and don't believe them. He was very friendly and professional, a truly gracious older man.still the best
My wife and I have been using Jack for over 5 years. He's altered everything from suits, to jeans, and I've had him "perfect" several shirts that were either too baggy or too long. His work is always impeccable and his attitude, while a little brusque, is totally professional.Worldwide > United States > New York, NY > Fashion
