Great chicken.
The fried chicken is excellent. The batter is light and crispy and the chicken moist. The biscuits with honey are made from pancake batter and are heavenly! The place is cute and clean.Golden Bird and Pioneer had a baby
Located in the heart of Culver City, the chicken here is VERY reminiscent of Golden Bird or Pioneer minus the grease. This restuarant is very neat and modern with a Plasma TV to match. It also has sidewalk seating and is a VERY close (walking distance) to the movie theater. They serve the best biscuits in the world and their fresh squeezed lemonade is soooo good. FYI - On the last weekend of every month they offer great specials, including buy one-get one free meals. Best to dine here after 4:00pm. Since it is very close to the Sony studios, this place is packed during lunch hour with dozens of Sony folks. Be sure to double check your order if you get it to go. I have witnessed other patrons experience some mix-ups. Otherwise, this place is great!Great chicken, but avoid if you are in a time crunch
The chicken is great, but every time I go (which is 3 times), it takes FOREVER. After the first experience, I thought if I called in before, it would be fine. Guess what, when I got there, it took another 30 minutes. I swore I would never go again, but the chicken is pretty good and it's on the way home. I thought I would give them a second chace. I went again and this time I thought If I reiterated the importance of being on time (and I gave them 45 minutes) that it would be on time. Guess what? When I got there, they didn't even start putting the order together. All 3 times, I didn't see a manager and it was chaos. I think this is my last time there.be prepared to wait
it is good that culver city is getting all these new eateries, which include honey's kettle. the fried chicken and catfish were not bad. i can't say they were the best i ever had but they were decent. i do love the biscuits though. as for the service, well, it could be lots better. there were probably about 5 visible employees working each time i have been there. other than the cashier, what the rest were doing, i don't know. in the meantime, the line was getting longer. one could also see that the food was already cooked. so why some employees were just standing around and not putting the food in the basket is beyond me. if i am craving fried chicken, i'd probably go back; but, if i remember the wait i had to go through each time i've been there, i might just change my mind and go to KFC instead.Great Fried Chicken Served with an Attitude
Like others have mentioned, I find the chicken to be one of the best fried chickens I've had in a long time. The portions are huge. I wish with the single meals you got a choice of sides instead of just the kettle fries. The biscuit, yes is to die for, wish they gave you more than one with the meal! The service, well let's just say, the times I have been there, the "crew" has had major attitude like waiting on you is putting them out. They all need some customer service training and someone to tell them that a smile will not break their face. When I asked for a "to-go" container for my chicken, I was handed a bag. Great, for fried chicken, NOT! If you want exceptional fried chicken and don't mind surly service this is the place for you.If you feel like a quick sinful fried feast, this is the place for you!
What can I say? It's cheap, it's tasty, and the biscuits with honey will make you fall off your chair.great chicken, awful service
Best fried chicken I've ever had. But, tonight we waited about 25 minutes for 4 thighs, 2 biscuits, and a lemonade. We couldn't see a reason why it would take that long (no crowds, no large orders). We got no apologies or explanations (when I asked with meticulous politeness, the guy didn't seem to know what I was talking about: "huh?"). In case the management reads this, this took place on 11/15, around 7pm.Greasy chicken
I've been here many more times than I'd prefer, mainly due to my boss' obsession with the place. I simply can't take in how greasy their chicken is; it doesn't taste good to me. I'd be able to handle their salads but their ranch dressing is overpowering. I've actually purchased my own dressing from a nearby store and brought it in myself to make it tolerable. Overall, I simply don't understand the fuss about it. Don't get me wrong; I've had much worse fried chicken; but I can't justify specifically coming here with so many other options in the immediate area.Seriously, my absolute favorite food in LA
Honey Kettle was one of my favorite discoveries here in LA. With the addition of HOT CAKES, Honey Kettle has now propelled itself into the category of epic. Honestly, this is some of the best fried chicken you will ever eat... it's puffy and light and delicious. The sweet pickles contain such an unexpected and wonderful flavor, and the biscuits (combine with honey) may be the best on earth. Thank you Honey Kettle... don't ever change.Best Fried Chicken and Worst Service in Los Angeles
Being a fried chicken conissuer, when I FINALLY bit into Honey's Kettle chicken I was amazed at how good it was. I've tried Aunt Kizzys, Roscoe's, and Dinah's and of course my southern Grandmothers...and this is definatley the best in town. The chicken is flavorful, not greasy, sooo crispy, tender and juicy. Their biscuts are not per say traditional, but are somehow even better: golden brown, buttery ,salty and slightly sweet all at the same time! The Pineapple coleslaw was a little too wet, but very tasty and crunchy. I did find myself wanting sides that weren't offered in this location:-Mac-n-cheese, Mashed potatoes. The bummer is...the service is AWFUL! At one visit there was no line formed, food was ready to be served and we waited for over 40 minutes for our order. When CALLING IN our last order, we got there at the designated time, and still waited over 30 minutes until it was ready! The attitude of the staff is just honestly really rude. My husband and I took the wait in stride joking that they knew the chicken was so good that they could keep people hostage: "Complain @#$%* and no chicken for you!" We wouldn't go back go due to the absolutley inept service-except now we're both addicted to the food! Go-but know you will have to wait.Good Food, Yummy Hush Puppies, What More Could you Want?
We ordered food from this restaurant through LA Bite for a company lunch. Great chicken, tasty gravy, the best biscuits I?ve had outside of my dad's homemade cooking and, above all else, great hush puppies. This is the best tasting Southern style fried food place that I?ve had the pleasure of eating at outside of Mexia, Texas.AWFUL, AWFUL CASHIER/FRONTLINE WORKERS. Food is pretty good. Almost made up for the staff.
AWFUL, AWFUL CASHIER/FRONTLINE WORKERS. You would think no one taught them manners.Mmmmm, fried food!
What's not to love...especially love the chicken strips and vegetable skewers. It can sometimes take a while to get your food, but that's only because the strips are made to order. Worth the wait for sure!Above-average chicken, really below-average service.
If you like your chicken sweet and greasy this is the place for you. The fried chicken is pretty good--definitely better than KFC but can be greasy. Pricey for what you get. Really good biscuits if you like them sweet. (The name is Honey's Kettle after all) The sweet potato pie was dried out and not anything special (guess it was under the heat lamp too long--maybe because other people knew to skip it). Fries can be fresh or practically inedible depending on how long the heat lamps have been on them. Although the food can be enjoyable, it's spotty. The service though is pretty consistently subpar--ranging from indifferent to just awful. If you're going to eat here mentally prepare yourself to wait twice as long as you would someplace else and then you'll still be frustrated because the food will still take longer than that. You'll be looking at a pile of food ready to go under the heat lamps, but crew takes so long to fill each order and does the orders in a haphazard manner--check your food before you leave the counter because you get orders that are incomplete or just plain wrong. The staff demeanor is indifferent at best and sometimes just rude. The slow staff problem is exasperated by the disorganization in front --saw 3 different members of the counter staff open the oven by the register to put in more biscuits only to see that there were already biscuits baking, requiring them to walk all the way back to replace the biscuits on the cart. In the meantime, no food is being served.Service needs some serious improvement
I have only had the biscuits here so I can't comment on the greasy chicken that so many folks have talked about. The chicken looked like Pioneer's so I was having no parts of it. But the biscuits are THA BOMB! I will drive all the way to Compton for the biscuits and get some chicken from Louisana.Average tasting fried chicken
I find this place to be the total opposite of what everyone says. The service is ok, but the chicken was far from tasty; it's average at best. Popeyes and KFC are a lot better. However, I think the biscuits were some of the best I have ever had.OMG - Terrible, Terrible, Terrible
I went with my wife today for the first time. Was a recommendation from a certain someone over at Good Day LA (Fox) for being "great food". I eat out at a lot of restaurants ($ to $$$) and being a Foodie of sorts I have a habit of noticing all the little things that make me want to come back or never return to an establishment. With that said I had to put down a bet that Honey's Kettle will be gone/out of biz by summer '09.do NOT order by phone
do NOT order by phone. they don't begin making your food until after you get there, wait in line, and then pay, so it saves you zero time. and they aren't competent enough to get an order correct over the phone anyway. So, while you're waiting, you'll look at your bill, realize they're making the wrong thing, and have to start all over again. This is the best fried chicken and biscuits EVER!
If you are ever in the Culver City area I highly recommend HONEY KETTLE. Not only is it in a great area the food is awsome. Trust me you will be pleased.Didn't like it
thought it would be good, but was disappointed.Worldwide > United States > Culver City, CA > Restaurants
