Gosman's Restaurant

This is the big tourist place located right on Gosman's Dock. It's always busy. The atmosphere is great...right on the water, but the food is ho-hum..'nothing but ordinary. The flavor of Montauk is really what it's all about, so have some shrimp at Gosman's and drink it all in.

Gosman's Restaurant

When visiting Montauk, you MUST visit Gosman's. It is always crowded so be prepared to wait. You won't mind waiting for your table because you can wait outside with a cocktail and appetizer at one of the tables and enjoy watching all the different types and sizes of boats coming in and going out of the channel. Gosman's is located right on the Channel. The food is good. Nice place to take the family. We always get to Gosman's on every trip to Montauk.

Worst Experience Ever

I couldn't tell you how the food was, because after an hour and a half waiting at our table without getting our entres, we left. What a joke this place is. The drinks were flat, and the waitress didn't care. When we asked where our food was, the waitress kept saying "four minutes" while the hostess told us the dishes took a long time to prepare.
This was the absolute worst, bar none, dining experience I have ever had.

What a piece of....

Average tasting food at high prices

Where do I start?

My main two issues with the place are these, so let's talk about location first, I went with a group of 6 for lunch and it started out nicely enough, beautiful view of the inlet and outdoor seating as we walked towards the front doors, it took about 5 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us while we were standing there in the entrance way, but when the hostess did come, we were promptly seated. Here is where the day took a u-turn, while everyone else in the restaurant had wndow side seating facing the water, we were seated in the middle of the room even though there were three tables still facing the water that could accommodate our group, when I asked if we could be seated there instead, the hostess said they were reserved, (mind you, at most, there were only about 20 other people in the entire restaurant, it was dead), we didn't give it much thought though until later on as we were leaving, nobody sat at any of those tables.

Service was fairly quick, the orders came out at a reasonable speed, but let me tell you, the food was bland and average, between all of us, we had most of the seafood items on the lunch menu, which included things like calamari, salmon, cod, lobster rolls, etc.

Everything practically tasted like commercial pre-packaged supermarket items, now I don't know whether or not the seafood is supposed to be locally caught and served but I was under the impression that it was, since other restaurants in the area make the claim of fresh local seafood. Either way, it tasted average at best.

Prices? Well, what can I say, it's the Hamptons/Montauk area, I expected prices to be on the high side, but not when the food is average at best. (I'm from NYC and although the prices are high here, the food is usually much better) So in the end, when you factor in (location, prices and staff) This goes from your average seafood place to a very overpriced nothing memorable restaurant.

Maybe the Dinner menu is better, who knows...

Save your money!

I've been visiting Montauk ever since I was a young child and I have dined at almost every restaurant from there to East Hampton. This place is by far one of the worst for food. The views are wonderful and maybe they feel they do not need to work hard on preparing good food because it shows. Save your money and just visit the dock for the stores that are there or go for an ice cream. Top side which is on the dock is a better alternative for drinks and/or food.

NICE ATMOSPHERE ON THE WATER BUT WATCH THE SEATERS RUDE!

Fantastic View. Can't beat it...but you can beat the staff. This is a country location, relaxing atmosphere, fun loving. We enjoy it often and have been customers for years. We recommend the lobster, especially the special which comes with a delicious fish with sauce to die for and corn on the cob (one of their only vegetables).
This is a very special location on the water at the mouth of Montauk Harbor. For where they are I would recommend their food. Everyone wants to go there so be careful in the Summer. The staff gets over worked and the ladies that seat you could care less where they put you even if you ask not to be seated here or there. They put your name on a list and if you are not there, they are on to the next one. You can wait for hours for a table especially at night. We waited one night for up to 2 hours. The problem is that the seaters are rude! Otherwise we enjoy the restaurant and remain customers. We go on off hours because it tends to be so crowded in the Summer. Closed in the WInter. Best time Spring and Fall.
