Best Thai in town
My wife and I just LOVE this place. Owner is sweet and attentive. Service has always been excellent. We drive from Longview, WA just to eat here. MAN OH MAN!! We always try something new and have NEVER been disappointed.Convenient Thai food, and good service
Yummy, yummy, yummy I have Mai Thai in my tummy. Good food at a good price.Thank you Mai Thai for being so Gooooood
This is the best Thai food I have ever had in Portland. I eat Thai food a lot, and try many different places, and used to have other favorites until I discovered Mai Thai. What makes it so good is a combination of fresh, delicious ingredients, perfect preparation, incredible flavors and textures, charming and knowledgeable staff, and a menu that serves many items I've never seen anywhere else. In the past 2 months, my husband and I have been to Mai Thai about a dozen times, and always wind up ordering 3 dishes... You do the math. Although I will say, I have favorites that I've revisited several times, especially the Moo Ping Pork, Larb salad, and Drunken Noodles. You know how a lot of Thai restaurants put out a wide-noodle dish and it gets all gloppy, and the noodles stick together or get mushy? At Mai Thai they are frickin' incredible, perfectly cooked, and the prawns and veggies are perfect as well, never mushy, rubbery, or overdone. It is really a delight to dine at Mai Thai.I hesitate to mention how good it was....
Since my favorite Thai place closed 3 years ago, I have been on the hunt for a replacement, and last night I may have found it. The food and service were fantastic! Tasted very authentic--not dummed down for the Western World palate. Medium spicy is just that--a nice slow burn that lasts on your lips for a few hours, as a reminder of the fantastic meal. Presentation was colorful but not pretentious, atmosphere relaxed, but formal enough for special occassions. No air conditioning!
This restaurant looks okay, but we couldn't eat there. It's 100 degrees in PDX today and they have no air conditioning. I walked in and felt like I would die from the stuffy heat. When it's record heat outside and a hot kitchen inside, how can you possibly expect people to eat there? hot!Mai means Silk
Since they opened, I've become a regular. There is an artist in their kitchen. Not only does the food look stunning, but the flavors are nuanced, everything is fresh and delicious. Yes, I order mild--because Mai Thai's "medium" is at the upper edge of my tolerance--I'm a bit of a spice wimp. If I go with someone who likes more spice, we ask for the spice caddy so people can add the spice to their taste. The Real Thailand Has Come To America (and it delivers too!)
Ok so Ive heard about this Mai Thai quite a bit. I was stunned by how good it really is! Ive been to Thailand a few times to visit my In-Laws and I think I might know a little bit about how Thai food should taste.Best Thai food in the city
I have eaten at most of the Thai restaurants around town and Cha Ba Thai has been my go-to place...that was until Mai Thai opened up on Belmont. This is the most authentic and delicious Thai food i've had in portland. i've been back 4 times already in the past 3 weeks! I'm slowly working my way through the entire menu.Used to be Great but Now Not so Much
We live only blocks from Mai Thai. In fact my dining companion & I were there on their first night. Despite too much air conditioning we perservered & ate a wonderful & fresh meal. We were so glad to be mere blocks from some of the best Thai in town. Then gradually the service started to go down hill because we were regulars & I suppose they felt comfortable with us. And in the last 2 months the food has been less-than-stellar. Finally on my last visit last week I ordered the Pad Thai. It was by far the worst I've ever had in this town. It was in a word -disgusting. So sour was the sauce I had to throw the whole thing away after the few bites that I made myself choke down because I hate wasting my hard earned money. My partner & I are done with Mai Thai. I'll give it another chance in a few months, but for now it's going to be Pad Thai down the street!Worldwide > United States > Portland, OR > Middle Eastern Restaurants
