Throwback!
I entered Glacken's for the first time last night. There were about 20 people packed into about 10 feet of floor place. Cracked concrete floors and wobbly tables do not a pretty bar make but I didn't go there for a beauty treatment, I went to drink. Fun, faded and totally unlike any bar I'd ever been to Glacken's was great. Packed with "regulars" laughing, playing dominoes and guzzling down cold beers and big, strong drinks Glacken's makes up for it's off putting interior with love, warmth and a great selection of alchohol. The walls and bar are covered with stickers, plaques and badges representing several blue collar NYC unions and organizations. Lots of cool 9-11 tribute memorobilia too. It looks and feels like the type of place the cast of "Barney Miller" would hang out at after work. Excellent, hospitable bartender/owner too.
