Great Sushi, Great Sake

I especially love the catepillar roll, and the special sushi as usually great too. I like to sit at the sushi bar though it's hard to see them working. I like the fact they have a good selection of sake and even a sampler.

Good and Cheap!

I have only eaten here once, but was impressed by the good service and the good deals. I would definitely return. The atmosphere was nice as well.

Beef Tataki & Lobster Sashimi

Great spot to head to for sushi and cooked Japanese dishes. I recommend the Beef Tataki on deck (raw Beef that's been slightly cooked on the outside, served with a soy dipping sauce and scallions), or the Lobster Sashimi Deluxe (so fresh the Lobster's still moving when served on the boat), or the Beek Sukiyaki (cooked beef simmering in a broth with Japanese vegetables), tofu and noodles -- it's the best Sukiyaki aorund!).

Ginza

I went to Ginza after reading the recommendations on Citysearch and I must say I was disappointed with the Sushi, as well as other things on the menu.

There wasn't much energy for a Thursday night and the food wasn't great.

I wouldn't recommend it to anyone

A disappointment

We went for some late night dining and were told that there was a $10 minimun per person even though 3 people ordered $12 of sushi each and the four was just along for the ride. The service was bad and they didn't bring us everything we ordered but charged us anyways. The sushi was prepared poorly - it was cut unevenly and not completely fresh. Don't go unless it's 2am! They are open until 4AM Tue-Sat.

Improvement

I went there upon recommendation that the food was great. It was great but the service was terrible. My boyfriend and I had to wait over 10 minutes to be seated. No apologies were given and the staff was impolite. If their service was more pleasant, the entire experience may have been better.

NOT WORTH IT!

The service was impolite, the food was mediocre, and the value was TERRIBLE. This place is EXTREMELY overpriced for what it is (a california roll being almost $7.00), with food that is only so-so (cold, watery, and loosely packed tiny tamago rolls). If you want a good sushi place either go to Fugakyu on Beacon street or (for great fresh sushi at awesome prices) go to Shino Express on Newbury Street. Trust me- do NOT waste your time at Ginza in Chinatown.

Best Sushi

The sushi and noodle bowls here are amazing. My boyfriend and I got the chef's sushi special boat for the evening and were treated to a spectacular work of art which was both beautiful to look at and eat. The undon noodle special was packed with tasty fish, eggs, chicken and veggies and enough for two people. The spicy tuna rolls are fabulous. The service was a bit awkward as we were sitting at the bar and had to keep handing the sushi plates to the servers who reached over our heads. I would recomend sitting at a table instead.

Wonderful sushi in Chinatown

We had fabulous sushi at Ginza in Chinatown. Wonderful salmon, yellowtail, unagi, scallop sushi. Fatty tuna was very good, but the regular salmon had a better, fatty taste. Excellent miso soup and the spicy scallop roll was all that -- spicy and delicious, not too much mayo.

Consistent & reliable

I go there every few months or so and while it's not stellar, sushi quality is consistent and there are many other things to try on the menu (like the variety of soups) than your average Boston Japanese restaurant. Hamachi (yellowtail) & tuna (sashimi or sushi) are good basic choices; I tend to stay away from the fancy rolls drowned in mayo. For dessert, the fried ice cream is very good (ginger + green tea ice cream inside), and is huge - 5" diameter ball piled high with whipped cream. Ask for at least 2 spoons.

Very small servings

I ordered Chirashi and was very disappointed. I get the same meal in many different restaurants in Boston but this was the smallest portion I ever got. The $20 meal was just like a small appetizer, maybe 4 slices of sashimi for $20??? The fish was average quality. Will never go there again. After dinner I went to Shabu Zen one street away and had some excellent sashimi for excellent price. I also recommend Oishii. I wouldn't waste my money at Ginza in Chinatown again!

Disappointed

I went to this place after hearing all the great reviews, but was very disappointed. First of all, the place smelled as I entered with my friends (we all noticed it). The service was not impressive and was very slow. The waitresses should focus on providing prompt service. Be aware of the daily sushi specials that was recommended to us, and was not on the menu: we forgot to ask the price so we had the suprise waiting when the bill came! These specials were 3x the price of the sushi on the menu, but that is nothing. It was simply not worth it. Everything was way tooo salty. I sadly have to say that I will NOT revisit this place.
