As a military veteran integrity in one the most important qualities I look for in all my dealing with people. About eight years ago while managing a full time job in San Diego and having multiple deployments to Iraq I decided to put an addition on my little house. My architect suggested G3 construction. It was because of the work my architect had done for me in the past that I believed all would go well. After agreeing to cost with a 25 percent margin for added cost, as well as a four month time line, G3 construction started the work. Everything went fairly well, some delays, but acceptable. About two months into the project cost began to rise and not much was getting done. I began to notice upon returning home at the end of the day that nothing was done and at times when there were people there they expected me to pay for their services. This in itself was confusing; we had agreed at the beginning that all subcontractors would be paid through the biweekly checks I would give to G3 Construction Inc. After six months, well past our timeline and having to many of the subcontractors asking about getting paid for work completed I asked G3 construction what was going on. I was told to let them handle how they would pay the subcontractors. Around the five month ( of hell ) A gentleman came to my house and asked questions about how I felt about the quality of work provided by G3 construction. Thinking that he was looking for recommendations about the company I said I would not use them again That too many things had gone wrong with this project and that I was well past my 25 percent acceptable overage. I also told him that most of the subcontractors had not be paid by G3 Construction and had even threaten me with possible liens. He told me that he himself were using G3 Construction have found that he was having the same issues, that in fact he had visited other sites that G3 construction were doing remodel s or building homes and he would like to get a few people together to discuss their issues. We met at a restaurant in attendance were four couples all very angry with a wide array of negative issues. A few days later I again confronted the contractor for G3 Construction about the delays, the nonpayment of the subcontractors as well as the stores that were calling about materials that needed to be pickup and paid for. He became angry and walked off the project. I called G3 construction and spoke to the owner who actually was the managing contractor’s father. He said he would come with his son to discuss the issues. We discuss everything, the delays, the threats from the subcontractors concerning payment, the 1500 sq. ft. addition was only two thirds complete. The agreement was I would give them a check to pay for materials that would be needed to finish the work and that they would distribute payment to the subcontractors. I wrote a check for twenty thousand. The next day one man show up to do finish carpentry he stayed for the day and ask to be paid, he was told by the contractor that I would pay for each day, I told him that that is not so. I also asked about the front door that he was to install. I told him that the door was paid for he had no answer. I call the Dixieline store about the door I had ordered months before and had paid G3 to get it through their contractor’s license and was told that all the materials pertaining to my address were canceled. I did not get a response from any of my calls to G3 Construction. I understand that the other homeowners filed suits against G3 Construction. I was deploys a few months later. I remember many times lying in my bunk being angrier with G3 Construction than Iraq. I returned home and even now there a things about the remodel that upsets me now and then.
