Hidden from the shadows of the Mountains

The service is a welcome in itself.
The prepared meals are very homelike.
And you are fed a good serving on your plate.

downhome and hearty

It's as if you were travelling crosscountry and pulled over at a cafe in Muskogee, OK or Joplin, MO. Not only is the menu pure Middle America (home style with emphasis on the South---they serve grits, for God's sake!), but the wait personnel
is truly authentic.

Good, clean food and like yo mama used to fix served by lovely, ladies who could be yo mama.

Best biscuits and gravy EVER !!!

I used to pass by Tom & Tiny's frequently, but I never actually went inside to eat until a few years ago, and I was impressed, to say the least.

It's now known as The Eye Opener Family Restaurant, run by Halim & Susana Mokbel, who are often at the restaurant seating customers, serving coffee and just having a chat.

The food here is incredible, and the wait staff are a great bunch, I just wish that I knew some of their names, but I'm too shy to find out.

The breakfasts are hearty as all get out, with the best biscuits and gravy (homemade) that I have ever eaten.

Other so-called local "greasy spoons" often get written up in the New Times and Arizona Republic, but I have never seen anything about this amazing place in print to the best of my knowledge, which is fine by me, because I'll always be able to get a table.

Eye Opener. Great fresh food. Great coffee.Great customer service

Name has changed from T & T to THE EYE OPENER.

Tired of fast pace chains and high noise level ? This charming restaurant is the answer. Tucked into a sunnyslope neighborhood, easy to get to , quiet surroundings.

Delicious cheese omelettes, grits, with amazingly soft, warm bisquits. It was difficult to decide from the extensive menu. We lingered , had rice pudding and banana wafer desert like our mother used to make .

We were greeted warmly upon entering and a nice thank you from the owner on the way out. Our friendly waittress, Liane. kept the coffee flowing; attentive to our requests. Two rooms separated by a divider with space between tables , allow easy conversation. The booths are large and comfortable. We visited at prime time for breakfast , did not have to wait to be served.

The Eye Opener reminded us of our Chicago neighborhood on a sunday morning; everyone happy to be there, anxious for relaxing atmosphere, and great food. They did not hurry us, and kept the coffee flowing,Highly recommend for families as well and all of your friends who like to linger and talk during meals. Going back this week to introduce to friends.
