A retirement community is where the elderly are supposed to go to be comfortable in the end of their lives. I had a friend at Edenwald and I wouldn't place my worst enemy there. They are too short staffed is their nursing areas. Patients in the nursing area needing assistance, but the staff had no time for them. I could go on and on about the care of this place but I know from this ordeal my loved ones will never be there. And one more thing you think they tell the truth and give answers WRONG, we have so many things they did wrong. I hope someone checks on them and what is happening. PROS: You're not there!!!! CONS: This is NOT the place you want your loved one to be.....
I have an Aunt living at Edenwald Retirement Community in Towson. The family is not very happy with Edenwald. Although their staff/resident ratio is good on paper, we can never find anyone to help my aunt. They're either eating in the activity room or outside smoking. It has gotten better in the past six months, but the level of caring is missing. The staff doesn't really care about the patients. They can stay wet or messy when they're incontinent. If they don't want to eat right away, then they don't get to eat all all. Nobody comes back to feed them. The attitude is "well, too bad. They had a chance." I overheard one nursing assistant say to another one "I just wish these family members would go away and leave us alone." Unfortunately, rather than welcoming an occasional suggestion from family, they resent it. All in all, look elsewhere for your loved one.
Please re-consider if you are planning to place your loved one in this facility. I can tell you that the president of Edenwald only comes in during the afternoons for a few hours on certain days so all the staff can pretty much do as we want since he is never here to oversee any of us. So if you place your loved one her be prepared for poor food, unsafe conditions, lazy, disrespectful, complaining staff. Some days it may take you 25 rings to get someone to answer the phone at the front desk. Many times your parent will be told that sthey'll have to wait because someone did not show up for work. I am so grateful that I no longer work in this poor environment. Please think twice about placing your loved on in this retirement community.
My mother-in-law was a resident and spent a few times in their nursing home. The lobby area always smelled like urine. One time I came to visit and found her lying in her own waste. The nurse said to me "accidents do happen." She had severe bruises on her arm that the staff could not immediately explain. The conditions were quite grim and the care she was given was very poor. The nursing home was really bad. It seems like the staff would punch in and then do nothing. Edenwald needs new management! The staff would not answer her calls for help and loud employees would keep her up all hours of the night. With all the money that she paid to get into Edenwald and the ever increased monthly charges one would expect much better care when one needs it.
