Untrustworthy dentist who will talk you into unneeded costly procedures....
At first, I was optimistic about Dr. Meek. He seemed to be nice and trustworthy. Unfortunately, this turned out to be quite the opposite. I had paid for costly procedures such as root canal therapy and crowns. I had a tooth with half of a filling on it, and he insisted that this had a root canal done on it in the past by another dentist. Not being sure since I had work done as a kid, and trusting his opinion as a professional, I let him take the filling off and put a crown on it. Even when he was injecting shots to numb it, he could not totally rid the pain (another sign that this tooth never had a root canal), yet he still insisted there was a root canal and proceeded with the crowning procedure. Now feeling like a fool, I can't chew hard things on this tooth because it is very painful. I think he wanted this to happen so he can charge me for another root canal and crown. Stay away from this dentist, and keep your money!Costly and unnecessary procedures
I strongly recommend going elsewhere. Went in for a regular cleaning because was in my neighborhood and didn't require a "pre-visit" exam before the cleaning. Dental hygenist was very nice, however, they recommended that I come back and have 3 cavities filled. Their admin ran an estimate and it was close to $900 per cavity, of which my insurance at the time only covered around $200. I realize Austin is expensive compared to other Texas cities, but this seemed excessive (compare: my upcoming wisdom teeth removal is going to cost around $1400 at a different Austin dentist, a procedure which, given my layman's understanding of these things, seems a lot more involved than simple fillings). I decided to have my records faxed to my family's dentist in Corpus and have them filled there to save on costs. I drove to Corpus only to have the dentist there tell that he could not in good conscience fill cavities that didn't exist, that he would have to drill into healthy teeth to fill the areas Meek and Tasch recommended filling. He said I had 2 areas that he would watch, but not cavities. I have since visited a different dentist in Austin (Michael Lessner) who told me the same thing-- no cavities, just areas to keep an eye on. Unless you enjoy unnecessary dental procedures and being ripped off, don't go to this dentist.Worldwide > United States > Austin, TX > Dentists
