I have had my taxes done here for a couple of years. My husband and I wanted to switch to a different accountant within the business because we have had some major life changes and felt more comfortable going with a different accountant. Admittedly, we waited until the last minute. When I called a week before tax deadline, I apologized for calling so late to make an appointment but was told they had an opening with our new choice of accountant (who I had already had a consultation with) April 13 at 5pm. On the 13th, I received a voice mail asking if I could switch my appointment time. By the time I called back, they had worked out the problem. I then mentioned that an appointment switch would work out better because I had put all my paperwork together but couldn't find where I had left it. The receptionist said that was fine and I could reschedule for tomorrow (4/14). I asked what time would be best, and she said 5pm. A few minutes later, I received a call from the accountant. She said she was "tired" from doing so many people's taxes and felt that an appointment at 5pm on April 14 was very last minute. She also didn't understand why we wouldn't just see our old/original accountant (she must not keep notes on who she sees for consultations). I started to explain the changes in our situation and remind her that at the consultation we discussed the fact that I didn't feel as confident in the other accountant's abilities based on what I knew another teacher was getting in returns compared to me. She interrupted me to say everyone is different and she can't "wave a magic wand and give everyone what they want." Apparently she was feeling stressed. I told her I understood that, but I didn't feel confident with the other accountant. As for the last minute appointment, I let her know that when I called last week I was told to come in today at 5 (isn't that the point of having appointments right up until the deadline?). She responded, "Well, you're not here, are you?" I was taken aback by her tone and reminded her that I had called earlier and was told it was fine to come in tomorrow at 5. I know it's her busy season, but isn't that her job? I feel that if she is "tired", she should tell her secretary she cannot handle it. Wouldn't it be more professional to speak with the secretary instead of chewing out the client? I told this accountant that if she didn't want to help us we could make an appointment with someone else. She said, "That's fine," and hung up on me. It's a good thing a person who has issues with social skills doesn't have to work with clients. Oh, wait - she does. Hopefully if you decide to go with this business you get through the ordeal without a tongue-lashing (and hopefully your accountant isn't too tired to complete the job you are paying them for).
