My name is David Fairweather and I'm presently a Hollister resident. This warning is specific to Casa De Fruita Restaurant's "Kobe Steak" burgers. Casa de Fruita is an entertaining little "tourist trap" type strip strategically situated on arterial Calif. Rte. 156. The evening of Sunday April 9th, 2009, I ordered a "Kobe Steak" burger for take-away. I scarfed it down- I was hungry and hadn't eaten all day. The burger did not taste that good. (If these are really Kobe steak I'd be extremely surprised.) Right away my stomach wanted to return what I'd just eaten, but thought I'd just been piggy for gobbling it down (so much for my eating habits as well as my common sense!). Forward to Monday evening, the 10th, and I developed major food poisoning that had me up until 4 am while my bowels purged major bacterial growth. My anus bled raw from the black toxins flushing out and my head was still swimming 24 hours later. I did not have to go to hospital, probably due to a strong constitution, though maybe not too smart. It was very unpleasant and the worst bout of food poisoning I've ever had. Circumstances made it clear the source was the burger. I'd ordered the burger cooked "Medium", and it was not undercooked as near as I could tell. I understand this place does not fresh prep its meat in-house, but gets it prepackaged by a meat supplier, so my guess is this is where contamination occurred. It was a humdinger and a most unpleasant experience that should have been avoidable. The best prevention is avoidance, which is probably why I lost interest in eating at Casa de Fruita Restaurant since then. Food poisoning feels like someone pulled a gun or lawyer on you. You just can't feel the same way ever again after that happens. So if you're going to eat there, think twice before you order the mystery meat burger, I would. And save your receipt if you do.
