Baltimore crabs on the water!
Captain James Crab House is the place in Baltimore to get crabs in a nice casual atmosphere....along the water! The Crab House is literally a shack along the water with picnic benches and is always full of Baltimore locals enjoying a nice crabfeast and a drink on a nice summer night. Definitely a good find in Baltimore.

Worst Crabs I had in years!
I had heard Captain James had great crabs, so we ordered 2 dozen to go - $50/dozen. While the size was what I had come to expect - medium.... they were light and hollow.... very little meat in them and did not taste good at all. A very disappointing experience. They would have done themselves better by telling people they had no crabs that day.... because now... they are off my list for good.

A very good Baltimore Crabhouse
I lived in Baltimore in the late eighties and enjoyed crabs often at the neighborhood pubs as is the unique Baltimore tradition. Last year, to my astonishment, I discovered that Fell's Point lost its last Baltimore Crab Houses. {The yuppy restaurants had Alaskan King crab legs.,) Thankfully about a mile west along the harbor was Captain James. The crabs were almost as good as a neighborhood pub and crab house, but you could eat them under a canopy in the harbor, which was quite excellent. The price was reasonable, the crabs very good, and the location excellent. If you are in Fell's Point and desire real Baltimore crabs, I highly recommend this place. The restaurant is on the north of Aliceanna and was not visited. The crab house was on the south. The mussels and clams were sampled and were quite good, but not outstanding (Bertha's in Fell's Point is better for mussels.). The genuine neighborhood crabhouses in Baltimore come and go and if you do not have the time to find one Captain James is a safe choice and the view trumps hands down those neighborhood joints. If you can eat out doors and be seated around both ties and t-shirts, go there.

I would NOT recommend this restaurant
my partner and i visited this establishment after finding a brochure for it and decided to give it a try. we ordered the cream of crab soup and thought it was fantastic! just mavelous! and the service was outstanding. however, our main course, the reason we came, was a complete and total let down. i am very sad that we wasted our date night and over one hundred dollars for two people in this place. i will only return in the future for the soup. by the way, they also have not yet mastered sourdough bread with seafood. i recommend that they find a new chef.Worldwide > United States > Baltimore, MD > Seafood Restaurants
