Outstanding mexican food
Don't judge this restaurant by its location. It may be in an unattractive stripmall, but once you walk in the door it ceases to matter, because this restaurant is amazing.A Real Gem
This is a small, local Mexican restaurant which cares more about the quality of its food than any other Mexican restaurant that charges twice as much. Everything is fresh, tasty and full of flavor. The menu has authentic favorites and dishes that push the creative envelope. The ambience is low-key and tasteful. It even has an intelligent wine list along with great margaritas. You can't go wrong here.A hidden treasure.
Don't let the location discourage a walk trhough the front door. Superb unique flavor of traditional and some goument mexcian foods. ALL prepared FRESH to order. Give the Blue Iguana a try and you'll be back again and again. MUCHO GUSTSOWonderful Service
Great food, great prices, great presentation of food and friendly service! The service and food is great...misleading because of the strip mall location. Fajitas and tortilla soup...awesome!FIT FOR A KING
For a city that has more Mexican restaurants than all other restaurants combined, it's no wonder that you have to search high and low to find the real deal. The Blue Iguana is the reward at the end of your journey. Located in a recently renovated strip mall, it has an authentic ambience that is only matched by its wonderfully consistent food. It's not another bland corporate franchise but a one-of-a-kind hole in the wall which makes you wonder how the other restaurants even survive in the face of this quality. It hasn't really been discovered yet. Get there now before you can't get a seat.Great food at great prices
You'll find the food here fresh and tasty. The fish is wonderful and a bargain, not your "run of the mill" Mexican, and it's served with fresh sauteed vegetables. The enchiladas are great. The dessert with ice cream, strawberries and kiwis in a chocolate tortilla shell is yummy! This is the location where Los Sombreros got its start, and the food here is good enough to make a great success of the Blue Iguana, as well.INCREDIBLE!!!!
I have found my favorite Mexican restaraunt ever!!!! The food is amazing, so tasty, very fresh! The presentation is artistic and the same each time I've eaten there.. I will never hesitate to take anyone to The Blue Iguana. The staff is friendly and the Owner/Chef has come by our table several times to say hello and ask how our meals are. What a delightful change from the other Mexican restaraunts I've dined at! I Love it! Thank you, Blue Iguana, my search is over at last!!Small time flare
At first approach the restaurant isn't centered in the best location, but when you set down at the outside bar you get the feeling of a small time restaurant doing something good. At first glance at the menu I knew that you couldn't just go with tacos or a burrito, you had to go with an entree. I choose Pollo con Queso y Chili Verde, which is cooked with a margarita sauce, covered with a hatch chili and smother in cheesy goodness. Likewise my partner chooses Mole Poblano, where the chicken is cooked to perfection and the sauce seems it could be drizzled over strawberries and ice cream. Not only was the main course appetizing, but the rice and beans were a nice element. The rice was cooked with saute veggies and the ranch style beans were lightly covered with cheese and slivered tortilla chips. Wish I could say more.User review by capnsterk
i have not been able to stop by this place in awhile. the couple of times i had i was really impressed with the freshness, the care that the cooks gave and the atmosphere is all care for. it really does not matter where the location is. look at durants. and they were way overrated when i chose to stop there.Great Food in a strip mall
The Food at Blue Iguana is some of the best I've had in a long time! The prices are right and the food does not have that heavy taste we expect in Mexican food. Try the mole and the fish in diablo sauce. Set in an off-track strip mall, I would have never gone there without the someone's recommendation. Now you have mine. Go there--Now!Best Mexican/Southwest, Hands Down
This is one of our favorite restaurants in the valley, and I encourage anyone who has not been there yet to go! There is really not much I can say except to try just about anything on the menu. The food speaks for itself. My personal favorites are the shrimp enchiladas, any of the fish dishes (and I usually don't order fish in restaurants), and the lime cilantro salad dressing (it's to die for!). Very friendly service and the owner is there quite often mingling with the customers. He has something to be very proud of. Don't deny yourself the pleasure of this gem!Horrible Hostess
I went to the Blue Iguana a while back with my girlfriend. We had no reservations but there appeared to be many empty tables in the restaurant. We were led to a table that is hidden away up by the hostess desk/front door. It was a horrible location and I asked if we could sit at one of the other nicer empty tables. I was told that they were all reserved. After our food arrived there were 2 other couples that came in about 10 minutes apart from each other, and when asked if they had reservations, they said no and were both led to tables that we were denied to eat at and were told they were reserved tables. Obviously, since we were about 2 feet from the hostess table I could hear what was said and I was floored. Talk about being treated like "back of the bus". I complained to the supervisor who seemed unconcerned with my complaint. In todays world where customer service reins supreme I was very unimpressed with the Blue Iguana. The food was fairly good but the experience left a bitter taste in my mouth that outweighed any entree' that was offered.Best Authentic Mexican food
The service and food was exceptional. We went for dinner based on the review we had read and were mildly pleased. The food was freshly prepared from scratch. The salsa was unique and fresh. The marinated chicken to die for an the fish not your average whitefish but sole was exceptional. What a disappointment!
Did we go on an "off" night. Very disappointed in the food. and it was not inexpensive. There were four of us, two who ordered fish and two meat eaters. Only one of the dishes was worth eating. What's the deal. why has this so-so restaurant gotten such a high rating? Poor showing to my out of town guests. Get better food from a roadside truck!Worldwide > United States > Tempe, AZ > Tex-Mex Restaurants
