I had BGS move a beautiful baby grand piano and bench from Gainesville Florida to northern Iowa. It was picked up on April 8th, EASTER SUNDAY, 2012. It was estimated to be delivered between 2:30 and 4:30 pm on April 18th. No call came saying that the piano would be delayed, so we had helpers sitting here all afternoon waiting for the delivery. It never came. I called the next day and the next and the next and emailed and tried to get ahold of BGS in multiple ways to find out where my piano was and what was going on. Finally three weeks after the projected delivery date I heard from BGS that they were hoping for May 25th in the afternoon. Again we had helpers sitting and waiting. We got a call saying he would be delayed, but he was in Iowa, but had blown a tire and had had severe damage to his truck but was still coming. At 8:30 at night the truck arrived. Pictures of the piano and bench had been taken before it left Gainesville so we knew that this beautiful piano was in perfect condition when picked up. A good job had been done wrapping the pieces with packing quilts. The problem was that the dolly that was brought to move the piano was broken. The piano had to make it up a total of six steps between two landings on the outside deck of our house. We had 4 guys here to help, as the mover had hurt his arm and was only able to use one arm to do anything. Without our helpers that piano never would have made it into the house. The piano itself made it just fine with only two small scratches and no major damage. The piano bench has a large gash on the side. The mover tried to tell me that someone must have had keys in their pocket and scratched it. But, the pictures show it in perfect condition coming from my elderly relatives who took perfect care of it. The gash must have happened during the move. It looks like it was dropped, as it is indented and the cherry color is gone in a wide gash, not just a scratch. I am going to have a professional piano refinisher do the work to repair it. The other thing that was wrong is that two of the springs were missing that make the pedals work. One was in place, one we found under the deck in the middle of the summer where it must have fallen out of the piano packaging as it was being taken up the deck stairs. The third spring is still missing and after writing BGS and asking them to look for the springs possibly in the truck, I received no reply at all. NOT EVER. When the piano was tipped during shipping, a wooden dowel that holds the keyboard in place was knocked out of position, so one side of the keyboard was higher than the other and when you tried to play it would reverberate like crazy. The piano tuner was able to remove the keyboard and get the dowel out and put it back where it was supposed to be. He couldn't do anything with the pedals as at that time we hadn't found the spring that fell under the deck yet. The one spring that was there was with a pedal that had been put in the wrong position by the mover. But, he said that that had been no problem to switch. We'll have to order another spring to replace the lost one and have the tuner come back again. I don't know how to rate this mover really. I think his intentions are good, I think he tries very hard. The piano bench made it here with one gash and the piano has a missing spring, but the actual piano was mostly good with just two very small scratches, at a reasonable price but it took six weeks and 5 days to arrive with terrible communication. When that tire blew, it was amazing that the truck didn't roll. The front fender, grill and headlight were blown away and even the step below the drivers door was gone. The poor driver was exhausted and stressed out and injured and yet he kept coming to make that delivery and he headed out again after we finished up at 11:00 pm. I feel we were very lucky to get the piano in place with as little wrong with it as there was. I would give BGS an E for effort, but their communication skills are just awful. I wrote this movers father, I tried calling many times,I never once heard back from either one of them during the first five weeks of this whole process. From beginning to end you never knew when or if you would ever see your piano again. So, I was very relieved to see it arrive, but we supplied planks, ropes, two football players and two herniated middle aged men to get it in the house. I don't think you are warned just how much you will have to help when you hire this mover. Luckily we were prepared as the mover had told me that his arm was injured and he couldn't lift anything. I had sent several pictures of the house with deck so they would know exactly what to expect . I know having two men to make the deliveries would raise the cost , but I just don't see how one guy can possibly deliver the large pieces like a babygrand without killing himself and shortening his moving career. It's just too much for one man to do and not everyone can come up with the kind of help that we had on the receiving end. The mover was actually very polite and personable, given the late hour, the delays and with the damage to his truck I don't know if I would have been as calm as he was.
