About Colleen E. Harrison:
Shortly after retiring from the federal government, I started my own business representing taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service. I chose this line of work because I not only excelled at it, but saw a real need for honesty and integrity in the field of tax debt relief and tax problem resolution. I was only too well aware of the false and misleading advertisements promoted by tax debt relief firms not to want to do something about it. I felt the need to be in business for myself in order to follow my own heart and beliefs. I wanted to assist those in need of help and to let the public know the truth about their rights and what IRS could and could not do.
Too many in the tax debt collection business were misleading the public with false claims about their success rates. Too many taxpayers didn't understand their rights or IRS procedure and protocol. The public needed to be informed about how to handle their tax matters. They needed to know what could and could not be done for them and how to choose someone with the proper experience, education and credentials to represent them before the IRS and the State. While many companies were careful about what they said, they weren't always transparent. I noticed that new companies were constantly being formed to handle tax debt relief. They also were frequently shut down by the government only to reopen again under a different name. Why were so many people interested in the business of tax debt relief? Because there appeared to be a quick profit with little knowledge and effort.
However, the truth is that a great deal of knowledge and skill is needed to evaluate a taxpayer's particular facts and circumstances and provide the appropriate strategies necessary to resolve their problems with the IRS. It is not a matter of providing a person with forms to fill out and then mailing them to the IRS. It takes education, experience and skill to resolve tax problems in the best way possible. I keep my business small for many reasons. One, I can handle each person's case without having to refer it to others. My fees do not have to take into consideration overhead costs because I work from my home office. I only take on a limited number of cases so that each case can get the attention it needs. Since my clients are already experiencing financial difficulties, the last thing they need is more expense they cannot afford. On the other hand, if my services were free, they wouldn't be appreciated.
