"The Sunrise Shell Story"

Once only adorned by Hawaiian Royalty (the Ali’i) of days past, the rare Hawaiian Sunrise Shell or Langford's Pecten is a deep water member of the scallop family that lives at depths in access of 100 feet. Hawaiian Legend says that ancient Kings of Hawaii would send servants out to graze the beaches at dawn looking for that “Special Shell”. They were given the name "Sunrise Shell" because the best time to find them was in the early morning when the sun's light would reflect off the shell's beautiful vibrant hues making them easier to spot. Native only to the Hawaiian Islands, Sunrise Shells are highly prized for both collecting and jewelry design. Because of their rarity, Sunrise Shells can be extremely expensive, even an imperfect, tide worn specimen can sell for well over $100 and if that tide worn specimen happens to be an unusual color, it can sell for even more. In Hawaiian Legend it is said that "To find a rare Sunrise Shell is a blessing and to wear one shows your Spirit of Aloha". "Gem from the Sea"...

For over 300 years Japanese Glass Fishing Floats (Balls) were handblown in many sizes & colors and to this day are popular collectors' items. They were used by fishermen to keep their fishing nets afloat, breaking away & apart these floats spend years drifting in the Pacific Ocean Currents & finally to the "North Shore" of O'ahu in the Hawaiian Islands...

"Mermaid Tears"...

The legend says that the seaglass was created by mermaids who would comfort & shed tears for the servicemen lost at sea. As their tears hit the water they turned to these magical pieces of seaglass... our precious "Gems from the Sea".
