Although a naturopathic doctor may use prescription medications, naturopathy emphasizes the use of natural healing agents such as herbs and homeopathy, and traditional techniques, including acupuncture and massage. A naturopath might diagnose a disease from a blood test performed in a modern laboratory and then prescribe an herbal tincture, aromatherapy, or skin brushing as treatment.
Dr. Rainer Fischer was born in Vienna, Austria. He made his way to the practice of medicine by first becoming a medical journalist after his graduation from the University of Vienna. His passion for medicine and naturopathy then led him to the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine. In addition, he completed extensive additional training in Austria, where he learned to incorporate the rich heritage of European naturopathy into his day-to-day practice. He subsequently opened the European Integrative Medicine Center in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he and his team serve patients in the Scottsdale area. He serves as faculty at the Phoenix Institute of Herbal Medicine and Acupuncture, where he teaches pharmacology and Western botanical medicine.
Dr. Fischer’s goal is to follow the European tradition, choosing the methods that work best for an individual by integrating the best of European naturopathy with advanced modern medical science.
