The original Roberts Roost was nestled among tall pine trees on Half Moon Lake in Tomahawk, Wisconsin. The legacy of Roberts Roost began with a summer cottage built by Marion and Janet Roberts (1st generation) on the lake (legend says) made by Paul Bunyan’s footprint. Their sons Dean and David (2nd generation) led a group of close family friends in constructing the one-of-a-kind home out of post-war recycled lumber. The home had no indoor plumbing, which left the outdoor hand pump for the washing of dishes and everything else that needed to be cleaned. Up the hill and adjacent to the Roost was the “little house” which included the workshop, storage, and outhouse. Marion tended a garden near the “little house,” while Janet used her culinary skills to cook, bake, and can. Sunday mornings were bitter sweet – that meant traveling back home to Racine – but it was also the time Janet prepared her famous homemade buttermilk pancakes with brown sugar syrup and sent home a bag full of her homemade donuts and chocolate chip cookies. Everyone that visited the original Roberts Roost enjoyed the quiet peacefulness of the lake and the clean pine air. Everlasting memories were created at the Roost, and we look forward to carrying the spirit of the Roost on here as well. Please join the Roberts Family by creating new memories and sharing your “Up North” stories with us. Bring in a photo of your up North experience and add it to our wall. We look forward to everyone helping us carry on the Roberts Roost Family Tradition.
