Lots of fun

A great college bar. A lot of fun during the school year. Great food, inexpensive prices. Penny pitchers every wednesday night and ladies night on the weekends.

where everybody knows your name...

Humphrey's is the perfect bar. One a monday, tuesday or thursday you can go in and sit at the bar, talk to Kit or Jay or Nicki the bartenders, or sit with your mates and toss back a few. Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday?? be prepared to party with the best. Great prices, great music, great people....oh yeah, dont mess with their bouncers -- they know what they are doing!!!

Best bar of Saint Louis

Humhprey's bar and grille is the best bar in saint louis, hands down.

The prices are reasonable, all the time. The atmosphere is all STL and SLU.

Jan Mangelsdorf cares about this city, and Saint Louis University, not to mention the staff is unparalelled.

Humphrey's staff is what every bar's should be, but it's one of a kind. They make relationships with their patrons, and the bouncers are serious about keeping the atmosphere pleasant.

Best Cheesebugers...

Humphrey's by far has the best cheeseburgers in the St. Louis area. I recommend the Double Cheese. Also, their staff is very friendly!

Favorite of SLU students, but not many others

Humphrey's is a good but overrated bar located off Grand near 64-40 across from the campus of Saint Louis University. The bar is almost always crowded, with walkways being very small. The bar has two levels. The main level houses the bar and seating area, while upstairs you'll find a little more seating, a band (sometimes), and various games.

The crowd is almost entirely SLU students, who believe they are trendy, hence the bar gets a trendy reputation. However, the bar is pretty much your average pub. In fact, aside from the interesting photos of local sports teams, the inside of the bar itself is very blah and definitely nothing to look at. The crowd, however, is a different story. Lots of good-looking single people to be found. The bands, when they get them, are nothing to scream about. The prices are great, but if you're looking for sports, look elsewhere.

In summary: Cheap, good-looking crowd, but too crowded, and so average that it's amusing to see such high reviews. Big bonus, though, for having bubble hockey.

Great classic bar/pub

Humphrey's is a 30 year survivor serving consistently good bar food and drinks at reasonable prices. Late night is definitely a college/young professional crowd but Humphrey's longevity has produced an eclectic lunch crowd of professionals at the tables (former students, who now occasionally bring in their kids for a burger) and construction workers eating at the bar. If it is REALLY packed at lunch it may take some time to get your food, but they usually let you know that. I have been going there with sporadic regularity for almost 20 years, and still (retired now) meet friends there before ball games and the occasional lunch or happy hour. This is one of those places where I always look at the menu then order the same thing: for me, the patty melt is the one, with the bread grilled toasty brown, the cheese melted perfectly and the beef consistently tasty: YUM! I usually order a half order (how many places can you do THAT?!) of regular fries to replace the potato chips that come with it. Put a "long neck" along side and you know life is good! And at happy hour the "mini tacos" (crispy fried little folds stuffed with a small amount of frijoles served with 3 small cups of salsa, guacamole and sour cream) have had me hooked for years. The chicken wings are heftier than many places (and I eat a lot of wings!) and the sauce has just the right amount of heat: enough to seriously wake my tongue up without causing me to sweat. The atmosphere is definitely pub/bar with scattered TV's for sports viewing, lots of professional and SLU sports memorabilia on the walls along with a few ancient animal heads. Humphrey's is a reasonably priced traditional classic bar worth stopping at for lunch or after work (or later if you are young enough!)

Early Cut Offs On Happy Hour

Rude waiters supported by indifferent managers cut off happy hour 14 minutes early and try to explain how their "bar time" supercedes the time standard the rest of the world is on. Don't waste your time here. Go down the block for a much better time where the staff not only can tell the time, but will even give you a few minutes and the benefit of the doubt.

It's a bar.

It's a bar. It's in St. Louis. It's close to SLU. It's open until 3 in the morning. There is pinball.

Great bar food and drink specials

I've been going to Humphrey's for years and it never disappoints me. The food has always been good. The chicken wings and salads are my favorite, but people rave about their burgers. I especially like taking a group there for Happy Hour. Lunch is a good time to go as well. But if you're looking for a fun night out, try any night Wed thru Saturday at Humphreys. It can get too busy on Wed nights, because they have penny pitchers and live music during the summer. The same family that foudned Humphreys still manages it today. You have to love that. After 32 years you can understand why they've survived. Leadership from the top down. I love the mix of older people (50+yrs old) with 21+yr old crowd.

Best Buger in Town!

Jan and crew continue to offer a comfortable, warm environment while serving the best burger in this town! Good service, friendly staff and tasty food - what else could you want? The burgers come in a variety of sizes (single, double, triple!) and are basic good eats with whatever "extras" you desire on the sandwich or on the side. The fries, maybe best described as "chunky", are sublime with a perfected crunch on the outside and tender, tasty potato on the inside. The appetizers are simple and well done, a perfect beginning to a great tasting meal. Good job Jan - keep up the great work!

Good time

Had a great time at Humphreys just before New Year's, 2010. The server was wonderful! I wish to thank her because after the Billikens game I discovered that I had left my credit card at the bar! She kept it in safekeeping for me until I returned! Thanks very much and God bless. We will be back soon!!

Bartender Lied and Denied

Recently visited with some friends and when it was my turn to buy a pitcher of beer; the heavier bald bartender with a goatee said, "I can't sell you a pitcher, its to late at night." Since I'm from out of town and had never visited I just asked for a couple glasses of whatever I could get--obviously less beer for more money. About 5 minutes later I see one of their waitresses with 2 pitchers on her tray and I asked how much they were and if I could buy one at the bar--she looked at me like I was dumb and said yes they are $8. When I told the same bartender that he lied to me because I talked to their waitress--he pointed at me for the bouncers to throw me out. They obviously don't care about customer service. I would like to hear their justification for this.
