extremely consistant meals, the sign of a great resturaunt.
After dining at least a dozen times with countless other couples, the conclusion is that the steaks are well above average and very consistent. My main meal has consisted of the large filet mignon, almost too large to finish, which was 2 inches thick and cooked every time to perfection. My wife selected the teriyaki tenderloin. This dish consists of two large tenderloin steaks smothered in teriyaki sauce, again cooked perfectly. She never seems to eat more than half of one tenderloin, which the rest will allow her two addional meals in in the following days. The dinner rolls and butter, however, suffer from lack of heat. The rolls are always cold and the butter hard(although, lately the butter has been spreadable).Twin Oaks is a Dinosaur
I grew up going to Twin Oaks, when it used to be good. I then only would go once every couple of years on a special occasion. Not anymore. The only reason why people continue to rate this restaurant highly is because this place is a dinosaur. It brings back memories of the old days. They haven't updated it in ages. I am sure all of the good reviews are made by people over the age of 65. Unfortunately, along with a persons hearing, the tastebuds go as well. When you're on a fixed budget, Twin Oaks low prices seem a plus. Yes, the parking lot is always crowded, but as you pull in you'll notice the elderly people being escorted in by a relative. Yes, the prices are low for a big portion of lousy food. Legally, they are allowed to only hire men for the waitstaff (not women) due to a grandfather clause. Hey, it seems classy if you're sexist. They don't write your order down, but commit it to memory. The service is not great anymore as the waiters don't have a good attitude and don't seem to take their job seriously like at a fine restaurant. The wait is ridiculously long, unless you slip a few bucks to the maitredee. I can only assume that people get tanked in the "great bar" and then actually don't mind the poor service, cold bland food, iceberg lettuce, canned vegetables, and bad quality meat.Avoid all together - Bad food & Bad service
Sadly, my family and I just returned from a horrible dining experience at Twin Oaks. From the waitstaff who cared more about the football game being displayed above the bar than their tables (we were seated at a side table where we were able to see the bar and their antics), to our food being served cold and incorrectly - It was just a miserable time. Save yourself a load of aggravation and cash and avoid Twin Oaks.Never Going Back
What the heck happened? What a horrible experience. I went with a group from work for lunch and I had the worst chicken parm sandwich I have ever had. How can you mess that up? I asked for extra cheese and extra sauce. When I was served my "sandwich" the waiter said "chicken parm with extra cheese and extra sauce." I lifted up a piece of bread and there were two lame splotches of sauce. Come on... The chicken was thin and dry too. Not a pleasant experience at all. Same for my co-worker, she had the veal parm sub and was not happy with it either. The rolls at our table were also stale. Very disappointing. We decided that we will never go back there. Sorry Twin Oaks - but I've had better, a lot better!they put liquor in the drinks
Everybody in R.I. knows about the great food at twin oaks. but the drinks are sensational. At least you don't get watered down drinks like other places. They don't skimp on the drinksplease don't!!!
as a review above says" a dinasuar". I used to go when I was 20 and wanted to get served booze that was cheap!! After that part was over...sometimes I would eat...eh, I was a lid, it was fine. With all of the time that has passed, and all of the great restaurants in the state...twin oaks is an eyesore. The service is probably better in a hospital room. It's beyond filthy and oh by the way, the food? It of inedible! All of it! The reason the "parking lot is always full" is because it is cheap and I have come to realize that there is a whole other people that would rather spend some money on hideous good, service, and atmosphere than some more money for the better. THE WORST!Extremely Dissapointing
We recently held the reception to my daughter's baptism at this well-reputed venue. The entire process from booking the reservation to the event itself was terrible. Upon contacting them, they told me I had to go there to pick up a banquet menu. When I arrived, nobody knew what I was talking about. I waited for 40 minutes for an extremely rude and obviously annoyed gentleman to give me the wrong menu. Although our event was at 1pm, they only offer the dinner menu on Sundays but he apparently didn't know that or didn't care. When we finalized the reservations I was told that I would have to go there to put down a deposit. My second trip there was identical to my first - nobody had any idea what I was talking about and 40 minutes later I was told that no deposit was necessary I just had to call to confirm. My confirmation calls were not answered or returned. When we arrived the day of the event (I'm not making this up) our waiter actually tried to pocket a gold bracelet that my daughter had dropped. Fortunately a member of my family saw him do it and called him out on it. He put the wrong menus on our tables and blamed it on someone else. After a mediocre salad, the busboy pulled my dirty salad fork out of the bowl and gave it back to me so I could use it for my meal. The unfriendly waiter screwed up our food and drink orders and kept two pieces of our cake, all the while showing everybody pictures of his baby from his phone. I have never been to such a poorly run, disorganized excuse for a restaurant. Save yourself some serious aggravation and stay away from this horrible place.Worldwide > United States > Cranston, RI > Italian Restaurants
