Why can't a bagel just be a bagel?

Dear Noah,

Why cant a bagel just be a bagel, why does it have to be a bagel sandwich, if I want a "deli -style" sandwich I will go to a deli, I just wanted a bagel with lox and cream cheese, fine it comes tomato, onion and cucumber, but...
