I joined the facility in Vernon recently and, on the whole, have few complaints. I mean, for the price - of course the carpets aren't brand new and there are no towels for the shower. I'm a single mother of 4, so I'll bring my own towel or shower at home to save on membership fees. My main complaint is that usually the only time I have to work out is at night. It was my understanding that I joined a 24-hour-a-day gym. A couple weeks later, I find out that they close at 5 PM on Saturday and Sunday. Well... my gym-buddy works til 6 on Saturday, so that was a bummer, but we could work around that. Tonight, a Friday, I finished getting kids to bed and such and decided I really needed to go do some stretching and sweating.. really badly!!! I got to the Vernon gym at 10:45PM and it was locked up solid and dark!!! Ok, being a bit flexible, I decide to drive (at $4 a gallon for gas!) to the Manchester facility, which I've never been to... and guess what... also closed! What good is the placDeleted Reviews????
I have seen reviews on this website that are no longer on. Is someone deleting bad reviews? That would challenge the integrity of the place. Also, the post dates for the reviews are not correct. Is that intentional. I personally have submitted a review that is no longer on as far as I can tell. That would be totally irresponsible because people wouldn't have an opportunity to make a decision about whether or not to join.Get what you pay for.
CE serves it's purpose for me; workout and leave. The staff always greet me when I come in. If a machine is not available I use something else until it is. The parking isn't great, but common sense told me that before I joined. I never felt pressured to join, either you do or you don't. How much do you expect for $20. a month? I don't regret joining.Good Gym
I have been going to cardio express with my wife for about 2 mounths now. I really like the place. The staff always grees and and says goodnight. The trainers are very helpfull. For the price you cant beat it. I can always find a machine to get on and the people are very friendlyGreat Gym
I have to say that I have been a member in the Vernon gym for over 5 years, in fact I was there back in 2000-2001 too and I moved away, and when I came back, I was really happy to come back to Cardio Express. I used to work out during the overnight since I worked second shift, the gym is great at midnight. It was like I had it all to myself for a great workout, and then I could go home and crash.Unlimited tanning is the only draw
As far as I'm concerned, Cardio is only good for the $10/mo unlimited tanning package I kept it for. I have been a member for 10 years, but I took my exercising business over to LA Fitness in S Windsor and sucked up the extra monthly expense. Besides being more convenient to my home, LA offers WAY for not much more $$ than a than the top tier of a CE membership (but they don't have tanning). I have watched CE go downhill in cleanliness and overall customer service in recent years, and am much happier at LA. I suggest those of you who are unhappy take a tour of LA and spend the extra $$, based on your complaints.Horrible Choice
I joined CE a few years ago to get back in shape; I was turning 30 and it was scary. lol. Anyway, I liked it back then, I got in shape it was great, however, I hurt my knee so I wasn't able to go back for a few months, and did I ever gain lbs! But whatever, that was expected, but this time around I found out that CE had hired personal trainers, which I realize is there to stay w/their competition. However, these trainers are so pushy and obnoxious. They approach all the overweight ppl and try to convince them to sign up. Hello? I am fat...not blind. I see that you are a personal trainer I don't need you pushing me to work with you and embarssing me further. Especially when they tell you they are asking everyone. Um, I didn't see you ask Barbie next to me...so I am dropping my membership and going someplace where I am more comfortalbe. I am willing to come back and check it out again, but those obnxious trainers need to go or need to learn a lesson in tact.Do not join this gym
For starters, the gym is ridiculously overcrowded and you can never get on a machine without waiting every time. I signed up for a year contract membership and they continued to bill me up to 6months after my year contract was already up. When i called to ask them about this they were very rude and uninformative and told me i have to come into the store to cancel. I wouldnt find this gym beneficial. Not to mention the actual trainers here are extremely unhelpful as they're all either high school or college students with 0 experience in actually training.personal trainers, pushy and hard sell
I joined cardio express about one year ago and I was told the gym would be in a new location spring 08. I noticed new carpeting in the gym and now I wonder if they will be moving at all. I was approached by a personal trainer and made an appointment with him. He did not inform me that this service was an extra charge. He was very pushy and now I am going to quit this place. One reason I liked this gym, despite the shabbiness, torn carpets, and worn out decor, was the fact no one pressured me to recruit friends. I dread going back there to quit. I was very offended by this personal trainer.very dirty and rude
I've been a member at cardio express for 2 years now. i pay 10.60 a month, which is why I joined(that's cheap) and I'm a college student so i don't have a lot of money. I joined the vernon one first, that place is as filthy as can be. All the equipment is always dirty and dusty. There is never any paper towels to sanitize your machine. Don't even think about going there around 3-6 because there is no parking or any machines open. you will be wasting your time. The dressing rooms are disgusting because people wipe their snots on the walls and there are holes in the ceiling. The toilets are disgust sometimes they don't flush. I remember the scale was broken for a couple months. Some of the girls that work have really bad attitudes. Hopefully you know 30 days before you lose your credit card or debit card because you be fee'd double of what your membership payment is. (nobody knows when they are going to lose their card since its unintentional). You get what you pay for I guess. I stayedStick with Manchester
Tried Cardio Express Vernon location for convenience and was very disappointed. Seemed to have older dated machines, none of the cardio equipments televisions worked (cable bill didn't get paid?) and staff was borderline rude and completely useless. Upon asking where the treadmills were not only did I have to get the girl's attention when standing DIRECTLY in front of her but she said upstairs like that is all the direction needed for an obvious newcomer. WOULD NOT GO BACK, Manchester staff is MUCH friendlier, more helpful and the gym is in much more updated and clean condition.Cardio Express is a comfortable gym to belong to
Is the carpet a little ragged, yes.. is it the prettiest, cleanest or shiniest gym out there? no, but it serves its purpose & the staff greets me whenever I'm walking in or out. Any gym is completely clogged between 4-7pm mon-fri, judging by the small size of the gym you shouldn't be surprised if you can't find a parking spot or have to wait for a certain machine. I've seen staff cleaning the machines later on at night, I don't use the locker room so I can't fairly speak about the gym's overall cleanliness. I joined this gym because of their fair price & because its simple. Once I found a broken machine, reported it & it was fixed w/in a day or two. I could have joined LA Fitness for a higher price & more amenities (& its closer to my house) but for $20/month Cardio Express is juuuuust fine! What did you expect? Club med?
Wow, I cannot believe all the negative reviews of cardio express in Vernon. I have been a member for 3yrs and I have never once experienced a problem with any staff, trainer or member. Sure it's not club med, if you're looking for a spa experience I suggest you join one. Anyone who had an attitude problem with a member oviously has one themselves.I go early am and everyone is very nice, non-judgemental of others and fun to be around for the most part. Further more anyone who thinks a personal trainer doesn't charge for their services is just an idiot. The only thing that I would agree with in the parking in the afternoon. I have driven by when the lot is jam packed and people park with no rhyme or reason but that doesn't affect me since I don't go at peak times. Anway for the price, you can't beat it. It has the equipment that suits the average person trying to get in or stay in shape. If you have aspirations beyond that you are deffinately in the wrong gym.DECEIVERS
I have to agree with members of CE,the review are accurate and true,CE has a tendency of screwing around with members bank account in order to obtain payment.I have not been a member sense the beginning of the the year and they still are taking money without my consent, they refuse to talk to me and I have made a formal complain with the AG office for possible solution,I'm sure they are member in the same situation...they call this Identity theftI Like It.
I know there are a lot of bad reviews but I actually like the gym (in Vernon.) Everyone is always very nice to me. I agree the gym is a little small but I think they have plenty of equipment to change up my workouts. I don't know about the personal training services because if I want to change-up my workout I just look at fitness magazines, they always have a lot of original ideas.Honestly, what do people expect? (continued)
(continued) I once overheard a "trainer" advise a guy to drink more water no matter what even though the fellow told him he had strict orders from his doctor to limit water intake due to extremely high BP. They also have most people do exercises that are generally ineffective but that are easy so people like them. I would strongly suggest reading up on how to approach exercising on the internet. There is so much valuable information out there from people that have been studying it and implementing it for years and haven?t just taken a personal trainer course at their local community college. I?m not trying to rip on the personal trainers, but what do you honestly expect from a $10 a month gym? The only people that should need personal trainers anyway are professional athletes and actors that need to get in shape in a very short amount of time, requiring extreme measures. It?s unfortunate that most people lack the willpower to get in shape by themselves by both working out (2-3 times a week is fine!) and eating properly. If you like to eat out every night, then no amount of personal training will help you shed those pounds. I suggest getting a workout partner as it?s easier to work up the motivation to exercise that way. Also, I recommend that everyone do at least a little free-weight weight-lifting as it?s probably the best thing for you (whether being male or female). Try multiple-muscle exercises like squats, bench press, rows, military press, and deadlifts to really get the most out of your workouts for the least time. Also great are pull-ups and dips. A downfall of CE is that they don?t offer any good cardio classes like spinning, but that?s mostly for girls.Honestly, what do people expect?
About me: I've been going to the Vernon CE for the past 4-5 years and am satisfied with it. I am fit and healthy and have both a practical and scientific understanding of working out (and I read all about it on the internet). I don't use their tanning and would never even consider using any of the "personal training" but the facilities are good. I'm 21 and go to UConn and prefer the CE gym to UConn's, mostly due to extreme overcrowding at UConn (waiting 20 minutes for a bench).Oh super gross! Try to get parking too
This gym come originally from Atlanta, and they are predatory on their contracts because they know most people will sign up for a gym and not go, so they do lock ins for "12" months. I mean just a disgusting gym, if you want a cheap gym with gross equipment and promises of a new location come to one of these.Great Value, Great Facility
I have been a member of Cardio Express for two years and have had nothing less than a great experience. You cant beat $10 or $20 a month for a great facility, friendly environment, and unlimited tanning. (I used to pay WAY more than this for tanning alone). There are commitment, and non commitment memberships available so just be sure to pay attention to what you are signing up for, and there should be no reason to get bent out of shape. Some of the newer Cardios are really nice, but If your looking for a descent sized free weight room, check out the Cardio in Vernon! (although dumbells only go to 75lbs.) Enjoy!you get what you pay for, sadly...
I have attempted cardio express three times. Cardio is basically for the younger, uninitiated beginner. If youre a kid looking to start out, its adequate for your needs. If youre an experienced adult with higher standards, then its a place to avoid. Most adults, unlike kids, can afford $30-50 a month for a well-rounded club. Cardio is populated mainly with the low-brow, attention-seeking types. It is not adequate for a balanced wellness program involving interval, tapatta style training, and the trainers are very ignorant in the areas of body mechanics and general body chemistry/dynamics. I prefer healthtrax, as it is staffed with well-versed professional trainers that construct unique work-outs based on client needs. Additionally, while the staff at Cardio may indeed be friendly, that friendliness is in no way genuine. It is very carbon-copy, offering the same cookie cutter juvenile stuff that you would expect if you were shopping at a teen cloting store. It fools the kids, but most well-versed grown ups wouldnt be fooled. I prefer a place that is genuinely interested in providing a truly positive environment. After all, THATS what I pay for. NOT the weights. 45 pounds is 45 pounds and an olympic bar is an olympic bar, no matter where you work. The discerning consumer pays for atmosphere as much as they pay for the facilities. You can tell the difference between a place filled with health-oriented people from a place like Cardio, where most of the kids there are more interested in checking out their arms in the mirrors than in actually developing a serious regimen that benefits them. I suspect that if Cardio Express took down half their mirrors, they would lose half their clients. Way too much self love in that environment. My third attempt at Cardio Express was my last. Cardio loses my business. Cardio just plain loses.Worldwide > United States > Rockville, Vernon, CT > Gyms and Fitness
