Dave Z Zimmerman is the contractor in charge of Speedwell Forge Siding when my mom hired him she didn't know about his business only that he is a contractor. After a prior estimate to do some repairs around the house; namely replacing two face boards and putting up new larger gutters and adding two downspouts, raising our cement walkway, digging a drainage trench in the front and back of the house and placing drains to keep water out of the basement (this was a process he suggested), and last to make a small garden along the rear of the backyard nothing fancy just a couple of railroad ties boxed off filled with dirt for gardening. He assured my mom he would have it done in 3 days. He started all the jobs at once, 4 days later he tore up my yard had three truck loads of dirt dropped off in my yard, tore out a section of my walkway, pulled out almost every bush around my house and did not finish one of the jobs my mom hired him for. On the forth day he did not show up for work at all and on the fifth day we were told by his employees that he was in trouble with the law resulting in his hospital stay for an on going condition and for getting in to a fight, he left for one week and no one came to finish the job. He left our yard in total disarray and left equipment in our neighbors' yard; whom he sub contracted while working on our yard apparently doing the job during the time we were paying for. My mom had already paid him $2,400 for the work, her fault, he refused the payment in check and asked for the payment in cash which should of been a red flag but this being her first time hiring anyone she did not see the signs. When he returned after the week away my mom decided to let him finish the job because he asked for a chance to make things right, this time I took initiative and wrote up a contract to protect us from further damages(on a side note his insurance refused to take any responsibility for his actions, saying he didn't have the proper coverage for bad workmanship and damages he causes). He said the job would be done in a week and in addition to the jobs we wanted in the beginning he signed a contract stating that he would fix our deck which he damaged while chopping down a large tree that he was specifically asked not to cut down and also to fix our neighbors fence which he seriously damaged and our other neighbors' garden which he ran over with a back hoe. On the day before the last day on the contract nothing and I mean none of the agreed to jobs was completed, in fact more damages were made in those 3 days. After consulting our witness who also signed the contract Dave Zimmerman was asked to leave the property due to his inability to do the tasks asked of him and because of the poor grade of work we are now stuck with the results of his work and out the money we originally paid him. He claims no responsibility for his actions. His insurance does not cover poor workmanship or damage of property.
