At Makemie Woods, our facilities and programming are now available year-round for groups of all kinds. Makemie Woods is a beautiful setting for retreats, conferences, school groups, weddings, and many other events! We have a variety of year-round lodging and meeting facilities available – small, large, and in between - suitable for individual retreats up to 130 people. We have additional seasonal housing and camping options for groups who prefer a more rustic environment. Among the groups who use our facilities on a regular basis are dance groups, quilting and scrapbooking groups, 12 step groups, and events for children dealing with diabetes and cancer. Also in the past, we’ve hosted concerts, pig-pickings, family reunions, leadership retreats, and several events for nearby Boy and Girl Scout groups. We encourage you to think of some new events to bring to Makemie Woods, like creating your own summer camp to bring here, or a high school or college reunion! We’re located in easy driving distance to Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown, and Richmond, Virginia and would make a great “home base” for groups and families who need a place to stay while checking out Virginia’s history and nearby attractions like Colonial Williamsburg, Busch Gardens, and Water Country. Our 275 acres frame a gorgeous backdrop for any event, and in addition to meals and lodgings offers amenities such as campfire circles, trails, rowboats and canoes, a pool, ziplines for the adventurous, an outdoor chapel, prayer labyrinth, and an observatory. Makemie Woods is owned and operated by the Presbytery of Eastern Virginia, and we are open to people of all faiths and walks of life.
