One of the most important skills of any physician is diagnosis. Correct diagnosis depends on having enough correct information.

These days there are more and more corporations trying to cash in on medical industry. They set up clinics staffed by a stable of various doctors and medical personnel. When you come in you will be assigned to whomever is on duty at that time. You are likely to never see that same heath provider again. And for sure, they do not know you.

Now not all health care is that complicated, but why not have a doctor you knows you? That's where the concept of a family doctor comes in. But it goes beyond even that.

Traditionally, a family doctor didn't just know you. He also knew your parents, sisters and brothers; i.e., he knew your entire family and all their medical histories. Now when someone like that performs a diagnosis, he is drawing on a much larger body of useful and correct information from which to conclude (A) what ill your symptoms correspond to and (B) the best treatment and dosage to treat it.
