Left hurt and OFFENDED.
I have long heard about tiffanys, so I decided to see if I could find a gift for my wife. I am long retired (more than twenty years now) so money is tight. I had saved up about $500 hoping to find a great gift.Flawless!
I bought my fiance's e-ring here, and I could not be happier! I had debated for months on whether to go big online or smaller at Tiffanys. I chose to get the smaller diamond at Tiffanys. Did I overpay?...Maybe. But number alone do not tell the whole story. The romance that is comes with the Tiffany name, and being able to deal with professionals who you can trust to provide a flawless product is worth the money to me. People will tell you that the salespeople are snotty, but this is only true if you let them be snotty to you (and some are never snotty, such as the lady i dealt with for months in preparation for my first visit and purchase). But like I said, if you go into the store gawking at the stones and rolling your eyes at the high prices, they might be snotty because they know you aren't going to buy anything. I was 21 when I bought the ring, and i walked into the store wearing jeans, but I knew what I was doing. I walked right up to the snottiest looking salesperson and told him that the manager was expecting me (which she was), and that put that guy in his place. If you feel like you don't belong in that store, then chances are they will react to that and be snottier to you than had you came in with confidence. The most OVERPRICED jewelry on the planet.
Ive never been so insulted by a shopping experience in my life. I took the time to get to know diamonds before shopping for my engagement ring and I was absolutely horrified by Tiffany's prices. Id been looking for a 1 carat around G/SI1 with a 1-3 cut grade and Id consistently found it to be around $5900.Best diamonds you will ever see
Enough with the Tiffany & Company bashing. In regards to the other reviews...T & Co. DOES NOT even carry SI stones...no wonder they couldn't accomodate your request for an extremely mediocre stone...they only carry the best of the best...color grades D to I and clarity grades of Internally Flawless to VS2 only! Cut grades are all "excellent" (higest possible). Why? Because they don't want stones with inclusions noticable to the eye, which is exactly what you get with SI stones. In regards to the cut grade...they won't offer an AGS styled grade of 1,2, or 3 because they don't use the AGS to certify their stones! Tiffany sources, cuts, polishes, grades, and sets every single one one their stones independently. How can someone grade their own stones...isn't that a conflict of interest, you ask? Good point...Tiffany & Company does, however, provide a written guarantee that what they say on their cert is true. Even other independent grading labs such as the AGS and GIA WILL NOT guarantee their reports. This "disclaimer" is even printed on the back of the certs of those labs! In addition, the GIA has been splashed all over the news for a bribery grading scandal...not so at the esteemed T & Co. They have been providing the world's best jewelry since 1837 and will always be able to fit anyone's budget. Will it be as big as you had in mind? Depends on if you're willing to pay for the quality or if you just want a huge stone from a crappy mall jeweler that looks like somthing from your grandma's collection of costume jewelry. Oh yes, I bought form Tiffany and my wife's ring completely destroys all of her girlfriends' rings. I paid six grand...they all paid over 10 thousand. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE QUALITY!A pleasant experience thus far
I have only gone into Tiffany & Co. in Edina to window shop on occassional lazy afternoons and have always been treated very courteously. Even though I am young, can't afford the majority of items they sell, and am clearly there to browse, the staff has always been pleasant, kind, and never snobby, patronizing, or condescending. I always appreciate their professionalism.Completely over-priced diamonds: prepare to pay $10,000 for nothing more than a box.
Last Christmas, I would have sworn that my anniversary ring would come from Tiffany's, but this past spring, we watched a Good Morning America piece on jewelry stores in New York. The segment concluded that, of all the many stores (and even street dealers) that they surveyed and had assessed, Tiffany's had the most over-inflated prices and over-appraised merchandise. With that in mind, we shopped Tiffany's first and then the other high-end stores in the Twin Cities. For the other stores that we shopped while deciding (and for the one we ultimately chose), see my other reviews.Tiffany & Co. Engagement Rings
My fiance and I went shopping for engagement rings at Tiffany & Co. The sales woman was very nice and helpful. The rings are definately more expensive than other jewelers, but in my opinion the design and quality of the jewelry is worth it if you have the funds. The New York location is superb. The Minnesota store is a pale shadow of it.
Three generations of my family have shopped the New York flagship and the first Chicago. Imagine my immense disappointed in the sorry affair that opened in The Galleria, Edina. It is such a far cry from the elegant New York location. It's almost as if they had to play down the class to fit in with Minnesota's farm mentality. Shame on them! I will continue perusing the client menu in New York but I just can't visit the Galleria location. It's too depressing. Instead of raising the bar on this small town Minnesota mall it lowered the distinction of a venerable jewelry store. This is so sad. The staff in the Edina store do not possess the polished professionalism you see among the staff in New York. I was told they could not get pieces for my mothers anniversary china yet I can get it from the flagship store? It can be shipped from New York but the staff in Edina can't arrange it? This is very poor customer service on the part of the Galleria location. The clerk in the Edina store said they were not equipped to handle or refurbish any LCT lamps. You have to go to N.Y. or a museum curator who deals with stained glass. The Galleria location does not offer all the Tiffany services which is sad because Minnesotan's are not really experiencing Tiffany's if all they do is shop Edina. The New York store is fabulous. The Minnesota location is the poor trash cousin.Think she wouldn't prefer Tiffany?
I think the differences in price are overstated. I looked at a few rings there the other day. The service was great, and I was dressed in a hoodie with cat hair all over it. Ask for Patrick. I have my eye on a 1.04 carat ring, VS1, H color for $11,600. (All Tiffany diamonds are ideal cut.) I have looked at other diamonds of the same weight and grade and with comparable settings on Blue Nile and Union Diamond, and the difference would be about $2,000, less than 20%.Worldwide > United States > Edina > Jewelry
