TASL Speech Therapy Consultant
TASL Speech Therapy Consultants offers client-centered orofacial myofunctional therapy, a highly specialized treatment that relieves pain and restores healthy function for eating, swallowing, chewing, and speaking problems. Tina Alizah Shahar, MS, CCC-SLP/PMT, and her exceptional team welcome new and existing patients at their offices in Memorial City and Hedwig Village in Houston, Texas.
Ms. Shahar received a Master's of Science Degree in Speech Pathology from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She also obtained specialty certification in orofacial myofunctional therapy and trained in craniosacral techniques so she can provide safe and effective orofacial myofunctional care to children, teens, and adults.
Motivated by her personal experience in TMJ disorder and tongue thrust, and with 20 years of experience in the field, Ms. Shahar opened TASL Speech Therapy Consultants in 2019. Now she follows her dream of providing compassionate care to others struggling with similar conditions.
Patients feel embraced by the relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere at TASL Speech Therapy Consultants. The team purposely creates an environment where their patients can transform their orofacial health and return to a thriving life.
Orofacial myofunctional therapy treats the underlying cause of problems affecting the airway, swallowing, voice, jaw, and speech muscles. Their treatments improve function in the muscles using techniques such as respiratory muscular training, upper airway training, cranial-sacral techniques, oral motor exercises, and tongue posture training.
People who struggle with swallowing difficulties and upper airway sleep-disordered breathing, such as sleep apnea, regain muscle function that improves their symptoms. Orofacial myofunctional therapy promotes faster healing and restores movement during jaw surgery recovery and surgery to treat tongue-tie.
The team often treats patients with temporomandibular (TMJ) disorder, as well as those needing denture implants. Patients with tongue thrust and an open bite can protect their dental health and improve speech by regaining normal tongue movement.
