Diane A. Thompson, MD, MS, is an instructor in rehabilitation medicine at Columbia University Medical Center's Department of Rehabilitation and Regenerative Medicine. She earned an undergraduate and graduate degree in nursing from Hunter College. She received the Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society's award for clinical excellence and practiced for many years as an adult nurse practitioner in primary care. Dr. Thompson went on to receive her medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Franklin Square Hospital (a community hospital of the University of Maryland Medical System), and completed her residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at NewYork Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia and Weill Cornell.She is an attending on the acute inpatient rehabilitation unit, supervises the outpatient cardiopulmonary rehabilation program, and sees patients in the outpatient practice at 180 Ft Washington Ave. Her areas of interest include neurological rehabilitaton, cardiopulmonary rehabiltiation, and obesity medicine.Dr. Thompson is also very involved in community health education and community service. She has been involved in organizing community health fairs and is a frequent guest speaker at many churches, community groups, and various chapters of the Lupus Foundation of America. She also writes a health column for a community news paper and hosts a syndicated radio health show and a health podcast.
